Alan Leeds Podcast with Michael Dean Another fantastic interview..Michael gets better each time. Alan was generous with his time for sure. I loved it..soaked up every drop. Alan is a treasure trove of info....the man has been key to James Brown and Prince, D'Angelo too. So many gold nuggets from this interview...won't spoil.
The only two things said that I had issue with is..
1. He said that D'Angelo liked to stretch out the songs...stray far from the studio version and Prince tried to keep it close to studio. WHAT????? Alan was there during the Parade, SOTT and Lovesexy shows...right? He heard Prince do totally diff versions of so many songs. Michael corrected Alan on that one.
2. Alan seemed to say that Prince may not have been happy performing Purple Rain every night. I don't agree...the man played right to the end as we all know. I don't believe Prince played PR every night. I think he did whatever the hell he wanted right to the end, to his detriment in some cases.
Fantastic interview. | |

I also found it interesting that Alan was so complimentary of D'Angelo (greatest talent since Prince). I just don't see it based on the 3 albums he's put out.

getting better? hehehehe
he is just as bad as he ever was. he's learnt nothing in over a decade. he asks dumb lazy questions (that he regularly gets his listeners to provide for him) and hardly ever follows up on anything. that's the definition of a bad interviewer in my book
he's just lucky that occcasionally he gets decent guests who can carry the show for him with good stories, he's had some awful interviews where the guest was just as useless as he was and the results were hilarious [Edited 10/24/20 22:14pm]
