Had to write it down.....it seems to help Ok, these last few weeks as far as everything that has happened in our country has really been getting me down. Then, last week, hubby and I were parking our car, just minding our own business when someone started cursing us, and it was bad. Mentally, it worked me over. Now I am not telling who was black, who was brown, or who was purple, but it WAS racial, sickening, and came out of nowhere.
I came home and wrote down some song lyrics. I do not have a melody for it, but I am working on it. I couldn't decide if I was going to share it or not, but after reading the thread about Prince protecting himself, I decided to go ahead with it. I may get blasted for doing this, but oh well.
Didn't We? In the schooyard long ago, but not distant to me, Didn't we play Double Dutch, An you cried too when I cut my knee
It was A-B-C order when teacher sat us down, Black next to white, White next to brown.
Chorus: Oh we laughed on the bus were together in the pool, Didn't We..... Didn't We?
Now I see the acid in your glance, Downcast eyes, rage, & cursing is the stance. Fueled by media, lies, and hate- How did we get here, to this state?
In my mind's eye I see us rocking the concerts, Not caring our shades, Did bell bottoms & tie-dye cover it up then, Or were we just better at holding it in?
Chorus repeat
Seemed like there were not barriers for us in sports, We only counted the scores then. Like music & Woodstock, it had nothing to do with your "Country of Origin."
How did it happen? How did they convince us to hate? God made us all in the image...do you think it's too late?
We have righted some of the past, But brother, not all. In it's place we have killed the future, An caused us all to fall.
Chorus: We loved once back then, Didn't we..... Didn't we?
I'm putting out my hand in love, Close your eyes, don't look at the color, Let's just try it once again, See us as He does from above................
(very quiet) Do you really think it's too late?
I guess what I really wish is he was still here to put it to music for me.
Good morning children...take a look out your window, the world is falling...

It's beautiful. I can relate very sincerely to the events that inspired it. And yes. I wish he was here to teach me. I miss him. [Edited 8/15/19 13:50pm]

I am sorry that this happened to you. Seems like the last couple of years it has been getting worse and the offenders are getting away with it. It's the 'climate' of the country now. When you have a man (and I use the term very loosely) that's in charge of our country who does everything he can to undo what the previous president did (who is a man of color) and repeatedly complains about members of Congress/House (who are of color) then what happens is the 'trickle down' theory. May things change for the better in 2020.

Seahorsie... this is beautiful. It scares me where this world is going. I am so sorry for your horrible experience. People are just so full of anger! I still believe in the good of most people...it just seems like the media focuses on all things negative! I also hope you find a beautiful melody for these lyrics. I also wish P was still here... every day. Hugs!

Nice lyrics. I have a slight quarrel with you premise, though. Of course, it was a lot worse ‘back then’. Read Pinker for more info.

Yes, we just feel more pervaded with negativity because access to information is a swipe away and so widespread within miliseconds as a result. [Edited 8/15/19 17:39pm]

Maybe, "back then" is from the singer's perspective, rather than a general view. When i was younger, I never noticed the racism towards me and older people if colour. But now it's glaringly obvious. I feel that, as I said, it's from the singer's perspective.
