Prince Tribute not a joke !

I received an email talking about french jokes for the 1st April. There was false News about a Prince new album. So in this email one of you ask me if the Prince Tribute was a joke.
NO IT'S NOT !!!

Important Precision:
I need a cover or a song talking about Prince.It's a
gift for him.So I can't accept a song simply inspired by the master.

If it's a cover ,don't host it on mp3.com or other commercial website without agreements, host it on a free hosting community, you will find several services in search engines.
In fact I would like to send it before the 7th June to
Paisley Park.
So I burn a double CD.
I think about 32/35 songs.
The firsts 35 songs I receive...
So lets'work ! All ready ? Damn... wink

You can discover the two firsts contributions on :

please what do you think about:

17 jours

and

Count the days

?

I think Prince wouldn't like to see us messing up with his children.

I don't think there's any problem with lawyers with a non commercial project. But if Prince himself, his staff, Warner or other institution wants me to stop this experience I will do.They have just to ask me.

It's a project for musicians to musicians.
It's why I ask to not host the mp3 on commercial websites.

I think Prince would be curious and honored to hear it.
It's not final products but Demos from fans.
I think, in this world, if nothing can exist without a commercial aspect in music,it 's a shame don't you think ?

Thanks to have this regards on this project.

you know what, i think people need to stop trying to play like prince and play like themselves, this whole " i wanna be prince" shit is tired and definately a waste of time. i mean being inspired is one thing, but wanting to be prince. is just time to get some help. if you cant play like the person you are but want to play like prince?..its time to find a hobby, justmy 2 cents.

I'm agree with you Finess if you compose you have to compose your own tunes.
If you go to my website you can hear my music and you will find an original french pop style very different than Prince compositions.

There's a man in France who said "Nothing is lost, nothing is create, all is transformation."

In music it's the same .
Even Miles Davis or Charly Parker had masters.
Prince has many references to James Brown in his music.

And all the masters began by tributes to their masters in the firsts bands they created.

Don't you think ?

Finess thanks you give me the occasion for a precision.
It would be nice to have original arrangements for this tribute refleting the talent of each contributors and not simple copies from originals tunes.

Did you listen to 17 Jours? It sounds nothing like the original, so, as far as trying to sound just like Prince, this ain't close... this is someone's vision of the song... I admire that.

Finess, from your statement, I thought this was just a direct copy of the original song.

It's interesting. Count the Days is also good, tho, in my opinion, cleaning up the language in the song really weakens the impact. One of the great things about that song, (and I really like it a lot) is the juxtaposition of the pretty music, pretty harmonies, balanced out with lyrics like "not until I make this motherfucker pay" - gangsta-rap gone to church.

But that's just my pinion. They're both interesting takes on interesting songs. I think it'd be neat to have each one of us re-do a prince song, JUST FOR COMPARISON purposes; now that we've all heard original music from one another, maybe we should each tackle a prince song, just to see what each person chooses to cover, and what they do with it.

Just a thought. And OF COURSE, the songs would be removed from the net as soon as we've all put them up for comparison.

That'd be interesting to do.

Thats what I thought till someone got threatened for passing a CDR to him at a concert & also before Prince found my Prince tribute very similar to yours.

Get permissions, then do your Prince Tribute. Your breaking the law & sending him a disk is like turning yourself in.

I only tell you this from experience & the hopes that you wont get the same treatment as Divinity6 or myself.

Really ?
What was the reaction exactly ?
It was a one shot CD or a commercial one ?

The problem is who gives the permission ?
Warner ? NPG Records ?
