Covering Prince on Youtube.

Hi all. Apologies in advance for a thread on a topic that has no doubt been discussed/explained a thousand times before lol but I couldn't really find any clear answer.

What's the situation with, and legality of, doing solo Prince covers on YouTube? I had a guitar cover of the Purple Rain solo up a while ago which got about 20,000 views, but then got taken down due to a copyright claim from Controversy Music.. yet, there are other videos covering the same solo which had been up longer than mine, and are still up to this day. What's that about? Is it just random? Or had I broken some specific rule? confused

Do any of you know if there is any way of getting round this? I've just uploaded a new instrumental cover of PR, and I'd like to do quite a few Prince songs (She's Always In My Hair is next on the cards..) amongst other things, but obviously I don't want my channel getting shut down. Should I just not bother?

Thanks! biggrin

You could get sued or your vids taken down after Youtube receives cease and desists from Prince. And don't put up any on the org, or the purple camp will contact me to take it down.
