I haven't recorded the vocals and as i don't know when I'll have a chance to return to the studio I decided to post these previews. I played all the instruments except for the parts Dr. Fink played, which on the Love Theme song was a CRAZY good solo and on the other ong he played some really great ethereal-sounding stuff. Keep in mind that these are rough mixes and I haven't tracked the vocals yet. Also, after the cool keyboard solo Fink plays on Love Theme there's a long section that will feature a guitar solo and some more vocals. Since these tings haven't been recorded yet the track will probably be pretty boring in spots. I just want to get some feedback while it's still early in the game. Maybe I need to do a Kickstarter or something so I can pay to get back in the studio. I used a 24 track 2" tape machine and recorded it as much like the engineers who tracked Purple Rain did, (although the songs are TOTALLY different than what Prince would probably do) even down to using the identical equipment when possible. The drums are a mix of LM-1 and real cymbals, the keys are OB-X sounds and the guitar is direct, dry and as funky as possible within the style of the songs. I used a 1962 reissue P-bass with flatwound strings like James Jamerson.

I'm not sure how long I'll keep these up, probably till I finish the album, though. I hope to finish this year, but recording is expensive and for the sounds I'm trying to get there isn't a home studio that can handle me. These aren't samples and they haven't been edited by a computer. They are on tape and played just like you hear it.

Hey man i love your music,dig the programming and harmonic solutions in you music.

The only thing i do't like is the backing keyboard sounds on Love Theme.it sounds kind of "midi" if u catch my drift.

A bit of more reverb on drums and overall sound would also add to the mix.anyway great job overall.

Your review of Steak's music is harsh. it's clear that Steak knows his way with harmony,melodies and overall craft of songwritting.the only thing missing is production touches like bit of room boxes,reverb,stuff like that.

only thing missing? man you know them songs sound like they coulda been B sides on an Appolonia 6 album! be honest with steak man!
