Shell-shocked, I struggle to stand

Looking at you I just can't comprehend

The poison pouring from your lips

That used to cover mine

With such passion and care

Was that just truth or dare

Born in a more innocent age

Or is it a crisis blatant

Baldly laid bare

Where there is no room

Except for betrayal

And unending denial

Of what brought

The two of us together?

Not that it matters

Any longer

The fire has faded

Only words remain...

Of hurt, enmity, and anger

As if we never ever loved

So, what is love

When it ends like this?

Did it ever really exist?

Only thoughts remain

Of how it used to be

Obliterated by reality

Yeah, life goes on...

But, all too many times

Careless words

Get in the way...
