Something in the water... hi,
i was wondering if anybody here knows the chord progression to the 1999 album track 'something in the water (does not compute)'. i love this track so much, are the chords F#min, D9, C#9 Perhaps? Can anybody be more specific or build on my own findings? any help would be greatly appreciated. You do as I say

Hang on... isnt it the same chord progression as joy in repetition? but sarting on the F#min7 rather than the D9?
if we play F#min7 , D9 , C#min7 i do not have my cd's at hand so im trying to do this from memory. So, im not sure if its just my mind playing tricks on me!! opinions? You do as I say

I did this one by ear about 6 months ago. I covered the song, but I didn't put it out on any CD. I would like to share it with Prince and see what he thinks. It is one of my favorite Prince songs.

What about the live rendition that the main man has been playing at the celebration an ONA tours, can anybody give me the tab for that? Also, whats that chord change going on in that track (live version again)
Anyone? You do as I say | |

I have no idea. It's a great song.
If I were you, (or if it were me trying to figure it out) I would pick up the guitar, find the root note to each chord, write that down, and then expand from there, trying to find the secondary notes to each chord, etc. I don't know 9s, 7s, minSus3rdadd12s... I just know what sounds right - which is invariably wrong, but it gets the job done for live performances. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

This is one of my favourite songs so as to why i didn't look into the chord progression before?... i don't know
The album version is very hard to figger out because of the lack of a bassline, just synthesizer strings. BUT ... Alternate Mix to the rescue! (the piano/bass version). Although this version is a actually in Dm while the album version is in Ebm Here's what i came up with Main: Dm/Bb/Gm/Bb Chorus: Gm/Dm Gm/Dm Gm/Dm Bb/A/Dm Bridge (the freaky piano solo part on the alternate version) Bb/A/Dm (play a riff like D E D F E ...D D E F on the Dm chord, that's what the bass is playing) You can also alternate the A chord with A7 to spice it up Have fun with it!
