in advance editing we got assigned to do a 3 minute film that showcases the process of a charactor who has a split personality.

we have to concentrate on the the moment the charactor realizes the split is occuring. We each had to give our ideas and then we will be split into two working teams.

Guildlines are this:

The Charactor is a "middle class" person who works for a flour company. We have to use flour as the the trigger that causes the split.

The charactor's name is James Means and this charactor has to have some sort of destructive agenda, rather it be selfdestructive or destructive towards another.

we can't use special effects.

this is part ONE of this assignment.

We are now going over Egyptian Art in Art History

AKHENATEN AND THE AMARNA STYLE

Amenhotep III, whom Ramose served as vizier, raised the level of devotion to the sun-god during his reign (1391–1353 bce). In temple complexes at Karnak and elsewhere, the king established wide open-air courtyards where Egyptians could worship the sun in its manifestation as a disk (or Aten) in the sky. Aten worship increased dramatically under his son, Amenhotep IV, who stressed the sun’s life-giving force and began to visualize the god not in the traditional guise of a falcon-headed figure, but as a disk that radiated beams terminating in hands. Enraged by the young king’s monotheistic vision of Aten, a powerful conservative priesthood thwarted his attempts to introduce this new cult to traditional religious centers such as Thebes. In response, Amenhotep IV established a new city devoted entirely to Aten on the Nile’s east bank in central Egypt. He named his new city Akhetaten (now known as Amarna), meaning “horizon of Aten,” and changed his own name to Akhenaten, “beneficial to Aten.” Akhenaten’s belief in Aten as the source of life found expression in the “Hymn to Aten” which is sometimes attributed to the king. This text (see www.myartslab.com) expresses joy in the daily rising of the sun by describing the world coming back to life at its appearance. Akhenaten’s new cult and fledgling city lasted only as long as its founder; after his death, his opponents razed the city to the ground. Still, archaeological remains suggest that Akhenaten built temples in the contemporary style, using massive pylons and obelisks, as at Karnak, but with an emphasis on open-air courts directly exposed to the sun’s glare.

The Amarna Style

Sculptures of Akhenaten and his family break dramatically with long-established conventions for depicting royal subjects. In numerous depictions, the figure of Akhenaten exhibits radically different proportions from those of previous kings. A colossal figure of Akhenaten installed at the temple of Amun-Ra in Karnak between 1353 and 1335 represents the king with narrow shoulders lacking in musculature, and with a marked pot belly, wide hips, and generous thighs (fig. 3.35). His large lips, distinctive nose and chin, and narrow eyes make his face readily recognizable. The Amarna style, which was not reserved for the king’s image but influenced representations of court officials and others as well, specifically emphasized naturalism in the body. Still, these unusual portraits of Akhenaten have puzzled scholars. Some dismiss them as caricatures, yet such expensive and prominent images must have had the king’s approval. There have also been attempts to diagnose a medical condition from these representations, by reading the king’s features as symptoms of Frolich’s Syndrome, a hormonal deficiency that produces androgynous (both male and female) characteristics. Possibly he simply intended his “feminized” appearance to capture the androgynous fertile character of Aten as life-giver.

Well of the first two the stone statue is of Ackenaten and the scribe (stele) above it is of him and his family.

This was done in the style of Armana. The Armana style is a representation of how the royal court as well as others were defined, especially emphasizing on the naturalism within the human body. The thing about The Armana style is how the men were sculpted, with narrow shoulders and wider hip areas making their masculinaty less defined and more of androgyous. Thus, giving them male and female characteristics.

Scholars try to attribute this to Frolich's Syndrome which is a hormonal deficiency or the images as mere charactures. But i would think that because these sculptures and Scribes (stele) cost alot of money to have made. Only the King could afford something like this and because so i would amagine that each of these had to be ok'ed by the King, which would dismiss the characture idea. I would like to think that he had these fiminized look to him to capture that androgynous fertile characteristic of Aten, the giver of life.

regarding the 3rd and 4th images.. that is

Hatshepsut.

She was the head wife as well as the half sister of Thutmose II. He was the king at the time and when he died his power was passed over to his son Thutmose III. The child of his juvenile bride, Hatshepsut. She, as the King, ruled together with her son until she died.

What is so unsual about the image for being a female she holds the authority of a king. She is wearing a fake beard and finally she wears the head dressing of a male as well as being clothed in a costume designed for kings. One last thing, most of her images show her without her breast.

That location is her temple or tumb, how ever you want to view it. It's called Temple of Hatshepsut.

The last images is called The Weigning of the Heart and Judgement by Osiris.

She is the one sitting on that throne like chair. She is dressed in all white like a mummy. she is supposably over a lake of natron, which is a salt used in perserving the body. She's the diiiiiivaaaa.

Wow ANDROGYNINE has me doing a mack stack of homework for the weekend.

edit images from a shoot, write a paper on a stele from the egyptian exhibit at the MIA, do the complete sound design for a pixar piece and go see a movie call "Call Me Kuchu" or something like that. He had me submitt 2 pieces into The Blockhead Film festival at the Institute.

Artist Statement

" I started taking photography more seriously after enrolling Sarah Whiting’s class Principles of Photography for non-photography majors. Since then I have been shooting more and more with my main focus on people. I started a portriat series of people just for fun and has turned into almost an obsession. My goal is to capture 200 different faces for the series and then publish them sometime at a later date.

I currently shooting with Sebastian my trusty partener in crime and I like to approach my subjects with an idealistic style in mind. Right now I have a fanciantion with black & white photos, because they have a more classic look to them, though I do have a great appreciation for color images as well.

These are just some of the images I have taken for my portriat series “Hey Can I Shoot Ya” and I intend this to be a revolving display with new images popping up from time to time.

i so strongly remember what it was like back in New York City. It wasn't easy, at all. It's not easy here as well, the only difference is...

last night i had a dream where i lost Sebastain. I cried like a baby. Prince came and said "ahh it's ok, she is right there" and touched me. I woke up and Sebastian was right in front of me on the table.
