4-track to computer recording

Just a question about a problem i'm having. When i hook my 4-track up to my computer with a cable from the line-out on the 4-track to the line-in on my soundcard the playback is all quiet and scratchy. Any helpful hints here?

Thanks
Chili Sauce.

It could be one of several things:

1. The cable. Try a different one, or connect your 4track up to your stereo to see if it's still scratchy. If it is, it could be either the cable OR the 4-track.

2. The sound card. Try hooking something else up to your computer. If it's still scratchy, then it's the sound card.. or possibly your levels.

In windows, there's also the whole RECORDING levels instead of the regular volume levels. When you open the volume control panel (double clicking on the little speaker there), check the menu, Options: Properties. Depending on what system you're using, there might be a radio button that toggles between Playback and Recording. Select Recording, and then take a look at your levels - they might just be turned WAY low.

Hope this helped.
