Self-Pity

Self-pity is a vicious weapon

A sly harpoon focused

On everyone but yourself

Until the wee small hours

When you admit

Why you are so condemning

Of everyone's faults

And admit to yourself

Finally

That you hyperventilate

Smoke too damned much

Don't eat but a lettuce leaf

Bitch like there's no tomorrow

Because you miss someone

Who is gone

And won't come back

Maybe sometimes

But not the same as before

Even when there's

An open door...

You have to find

Another state of mind

That leads beyond

The dead-end

Morass of self-pity

"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Once upon a moment self-pity recognized its twin called "free will" shook hands with "compassion" layed down with "forgiveness" and found eternal life.

Everybody has faults and sin and "self pity" is an auto internal mechanism that filters pain to find courage. You don't get courage until you've recognized how low you've gone in the wrong direction.

So props to those, who DO pity themselves in order to filter the wrong choices and to reach higher ground, period.

One final note: Those that have been "Abandoned/Left Behind/Forgotten," whomever made a BAD choice of not dealing with a problem and not praying to GOD about it are simply on the wrong road and DON'T THINK 4 A second that they are going to get away with it, as GOD is the redeemer, who will take care of those, who have wronged you, fact. God will give you double in joy what another has taken from you, fact!

Nice poem but a bit misleading... may you find peace and forgiveness and most of all. Not one man is sinless on the earth today, so embrace those that pity themselves and offer them a glass of water like the good samaritan; instead of a knife.

May God Jehovah Bless You and Keep U. (rainbow)

per

Courious...are you writing from the perspective of inside-looking-out, or outside-looking-in?

"Self-pity" is not so much a negative psychological state as it can lead to introspection and action to change the situation one finds (or perceives) themselves in, thus becoming a positive (healing) process.
