Schecter Cloud Guitar Problem & Questions.

First the Question: What kind of wood were these replicas made of?

Problem: Put my Cloud in the auto-body shop for a re-spray & went to pick it up this morning only to be told that the wood was rotting. I asked what the cause was & he stated either moisture or possibly termites. All my guitars are kept together in one area & no problems with any of the other ones.

He had to use Bondo (auto body filler) to fill the hole & now we're shooting for Wednesday morning for a pickup date. Please Help & has anyone else had a problem with these guitars besides the original paint issue?

I have owned some 15 basses and guitars. I have never heard of one "rotting" from moister. There are guitars from the 50's still being played with no problems. Those clouds are still relatively new in the scheme of things. All that wood is treated, termites would not be interested. The paint on it acts as a sealant against moister, so unless it was in a bath tub...And you would see warpaged of the neck long before rot of the body. I think what may have happened is it was dropped while at the painting station.

Nah, I noticed the nic last week when I was spraying the primer on, I had to stop & use Bondo myself. But you did touch on something leonche64 I think it was dropped at my house while I wasn't here.

Could it be it was already there before the original paint was sprayed on? I own 17 guitars, some are almost 40 years old and I've never heard of anything like this. What does the grain look like on the wood? These guitars were made to make a quick buck, so I'm guessing no maple was used on these Schecter clouds. Probably ash. Hell, I even sanded a guitar once and it appeared to be MDF eek . How's the weight? Is it heavy? My guess is they used B-stock wood and it was already like that before it got it's first coating.

Cheers,
D.

Not heavy at all & appears to be ash. I built a replice out of maple & it's heavy as all hell.
