"Dear Committee,

I am writing this letter to you to give you a little insight as to who I am and what
some of my plans are following my attendance at The Arts Institutes International,
MN. I don’t think I can give you the full jest of who I am with a few words, but I will
do my best to give you an idea of who I am and what I plan to do after I receive my
Bachelors Degree from AIM.
I try to treat my experience at school as in professional manner. Coming from
New York City, I have brought with me the knowledge of knowing what is expected
of my performance and me, in my working environment.
While at school, I view myself as the CEO of my very own production company,
The DownLoad Society. I treat the financial aid department as my accounting
department, with Ms. Charla XXXXXX, as my financial advisor. I have Claire XXXXX
as my business advisor, where she helps me to make sure all of my matters at school
are taken care of and handle in a professional and timely manner. Then I have
Colleen XXXXX, who is the Academic Director of the DFVP department, as the head
of the Studio. I view my professors as hired professionals to instruct and guide me
through my learning experience at AIM. Last but not least, I have my fellow students
who I view as my friends and creative advisors, who help me to stay inspired and
focused while working on my artistic expressions.
It’s these people, who are very important factors in the evolution of my
development as an artist. I have the utmost respect and admiration for each and
every one of them, my colleagues. I have the key ingredients for my success and to
the success of The DownLoad Society.
As for my work, this passing year, I am happy and humbled to say, a short film
that I written, produced, and directed was selected and premiered at The Blockhead
Film Festival. It was an incredible experience, to be recognized by my peers and
tutors. Following that, I completed my first fully produced film. James is a personal
story, that I strongly feel needs to be told, which is about a guy who is force to
perform a sexual act in order to save his best friend’s life. The film is explores love
and sacrifice. With Barbara XXXXX, my producing and directing teacher, I was given
the knowledge which empowered me to create something that is very freeing for
my soul and for that I am thankful. Not long after the world premier, the Obama
Administration passed into law a new definition for rape, which now includes
protection for men who have been victims. That is something that I cannot take
credit for what so ever, but with the timing, it did give me a slight sigh of relief.
I have also had six images published in two accredited periodicals and a
short documentary that I just completed is being archived in the Smithsonian in
Washington, DC. I have had the pleasure of being able to capture images of Janet
Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, the band TV on The Radio, The Governor and Senator of
Minnesota, and President Barak Obama. The combination of these pieces has given
me a solid foundation for building my portfolio.
These life changing events events are just some of the reasons why I am thankful for
my experience here at school. Most of all, every day I continue to fall in love, with
the world and people around me, the process of learning, and myself.
If chosen to be the recreate of this scholarship, I will not let you down.

when i all i wanted to do today was shed tears. Katie was there and she took away my cigarettes and told me i need to stop smoking. She cares about me, and because so, i remembered how to smile.

if you look at the moon in the first part of early morning you can see them getting into place.... spectacular

its magical

and the effects it has on us as human is something we haven't experienced in thousands of year

it's quite remarkable

we are becoming more connected

not only with ourselves but with the universe

its enough to make a lonely person feel not so alone

mankind has hope

as long as he stays true to himself

your happyness is no longer your own

and your saddness can be felt by others

when u cry we all cry

when u smile. i smile

i like your smile

soon. no more war against one another

hopefully

Today Ms. Whiting asked me if i was ok because of the whole situation regarding my hand. I said no, but yes. She then asked me if i wanted to talk about "things" because of the pressures of school and all things..

Then Ms. Wiener and i had a talk after class and she expressed the same concern, she wants to help me find someone i can talk to that i can trust.

she said the pains in my chest were the results of my body manifesting emotional pains.

i had to leave because he tears were starting to come. I excused myself and tried to find a place to hide, but i couldn't.

after viewing my rough cut of my peice on the Peace Corps,

ANDROGYNINE assigned me to take another approach on the piece and write a treatment for the documentry.

after many long hours of thinking and rewriting here it is...

50 Years of The Peace Corps

Recently I was invited to an exhibition celebrating the 50^th Anniversary of The Peace Corps, put together by Linda Dahm, her son Kevin and a few other Return Peace Corps Volunteers from River Falls, WI, to document a look back at a special part of their history. While there, they shared with me some amazing stories that were life-changing experiences for them, while volunteering for the agency. They talked of living in these exotic far away places, sharing their lives and day-to-day activities with the natives and learning how to understand the contrast between their vastly different cultures, all the while building damns, bridges, and teaching English to students, who have never heard any other languages outside of their own. They explained how they had to adjust to being in rural areas where electricity, running water and even in-door pluming, were luxuries, that the locals had never even imagined existed.

When President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corp, in 1961, it was designed as a volunteer program to be managed by both the United States Government and The Peace Corps Agency, it self. The program was created so that people outside of the United States could gain an understanding of our people and culture, as well as helping us to understand and experience lifestyles, which are unique and more challenging than our own.

Since The Peace Corps have been established, there has been more than 200,000 volunteers who have given their time, assisting in the development of under privileged countries, helping them to combat serious issues such as AIDS, Hunger, Economic Difficulties, Education, and Environmental Awareness. These volunteers have traveled to just about every continent of the world, visiting over 69 countries, such as El Salvador, Honduras, Belize, Korea, Ukraine, Micronesia, Romania, and Jamaica, just to name a few.

Kevin, a volunteer in Ukraine, as he explained, was very eye opening experience for him. His parents, Peter and Linda, were volunteers of the Peace Corp when he was merely an infant and being between the ages of 2 and 4 years old, he was to young to understand the magnitude of what his parents were actually doing, as a service for their country. After receiving his Bachelors Degree he decided to experience, on his own, the scarifies and the benefits of being a Peace Corps volunteer.

It was then he began to understand what it was like to suffer from loneliness, his Mother and Father, before him had endured by going through the pains of isolation. Being separated from his family and friends for such a long period of time, Kevin gained a better appreciation for his parents, because he knew what it was like for them to be away from the ones, that they loved and cared for, for something they felt was bigger than themselves. Kevin understood what it was like giving up confronts he had grown accustom to, like the little things that he and so many of us take for granted, such having the warmth of hot water, while taking a shower, to ease his aching body after spending the day doing hard labor with the members of his village. It was the lack of accessibly to mindless entertainment, like video games and television, and even the use of the internet, that allow him to broaden his horizons.

This gave him the freedom to dedicate more time to reading books, explore his views on politics and even getting in touch with is own identity, desires and needs for his future, helping him become more of and independent individual. He also experience the joys of being an intricate part of a community’s development and growth, helping them, as well as himself, to become more reliant on themselves and helping them to build a solid foundation that enabled them to become more self sufficient.

Because of his experience with the Peace Corps, Kevin was not only allowed to defer his student loans for the duration of his time with the Peace Corps, but also enjoy the relief of knowing that some on those loans were forgiven. Better yet, the knowledge that he gained from living in a foreign country helped him to have a better understanding of people who weren’t as fortunate as he was. Kevin was able to bring this new knowledge, with him back to the States, giving him an even better understanding responsibility to help other within his own community. To this day he still does what ever he can to help out those who may be in need of a helping hand, for example, helping me, a college student who is limited in finances, move into a room he was renting by letting me pay first months rent up front and allowing me to pay the deposit in payments, so that I would still be able to have money for transportation, food and what ever school supplies I needed. That kind gesture is an example of generosity towards his fellow human being that Kevin learned while volunteering for The Peace Corps.

My approach to this piece is to interview, in depth, Linda and Kevin Dahm, as well as Brian Copps, another Return peace Corps Volunteer, who volunteered in Korea several years after the Korean War. It was because his time volunteering for The Peace Corps, Brian met a visiting professor from the University of Chicago who was so inspired by Brian’s dedication, that he invited him to participate in his program. Brian’s experience in The Peace Corps was so profound, that he actually changed his whole academic orientation from international relations and political science to sociological anthropology.

I will include in this piece not only these volunteers testimonies but actual images of them and their environments, while in these various countries, to showcase the contrast between where they actually spent their time while in The Peace Corps and where they are today and the success the discovered after becoming Return Peace Corps Volunteers. I will also incorporate portions of the original speech by John F. Kenndy’s speech as a Senator to a group of college students attending the University of Michigan, at 2 am in the morning, to show how the idea of one man, with a lot of hard work, determination and many years, can lead to the achievement of more than two thousands individual’s dream to help out, in as act of service to their country by helping out those in other countries around the worlds need, to become a reality.

It’s because of these Peace Corps Volunteers who are still continuing to make a impact on the survival and continual growth of there own communities, but so many other participating communities around the world, which in turn is helping to re-establish a more positive outlook on how Americans are view, by those who may never get a chance to travel outside their perspective homelands and communicate with us, exchanging ideas and visions, making everyone evolved more connected to one another, as human beings and citizens of the world, bridging the gap between our differences and exploring the gift of humanity.

"I wanted to follow up with you regarding our meeting on March 5. I have completed my investigation and you will be placed on disciplinary warning until September 15, 2012. Please see the attached letter.

I have not had a chance to set up a meeting with the three of us (Andrew, you and me) and will be out of the office until March 14. I understand that Colleen offered to facilitate a meeting with you’ll when you talked with her. If you are interested in have this meeting, please contact Colleen.
