2. watch a current tv show and right a one page report on it. defind the characters what they represent. think about age sex orientation and economic status.
ANDROGYNINE,
I am not a big TV watcher. Actually i haven't watch a show in I don't know how long. So i asked Jew what his favorite show was and he told me "Scandal" so the other night we watched it on demand. Here is my report.
by the way... Jew is feeling better.
“Scandal”
The television show I chose to do this paper on is the new ABC drama “Scandal.” It is a show that is focused on the main character Olivia Pope and the employees at her agency. Olivia and her crew are attorneys who don’t practice law but instead are hired to clean up any troubles that her high profile clients get into. The show takes place in Washington D.C. and the story line often includes the President and White House. Olivia Pope is a straight-laced person who only deals with the facts. Her job is to help her clients out of a tough situation. She doesn’t judge them for what they have done or who they are. She is tough, very focus and knows what the hell she is doing. She is well connected with the D.C. elites and she uses those connections to get what she wants, which is to clean up the mess that her clients have created or gotten into. It is revealed that she is/was romantically involved with the President. Which adds to the complexity of her character. She is a good person who wants to do good things for her clients and society. She doesn’t always go about doing it the “right” way. What I find interesting is that she is a sista, meaning an African American female. The creator of the show Shonda Rhimes has created a strong role mode in Olivia. Olivia is strong, tough and yet has a softer gentler side to her. Going from confronting Russian mafia and getting what she wants to helping one of her employees admit that he is in love with his girlfriend and helping him to purpose to her. She has a lot of style, grace and courage. I enjoyed getting to know this character. Next is Quinn Perkins. Quinn is the new girl on the block that was personally hand picked by Olivia to be on her team. Quinn represents the innocence of the bunch. She is the one who questions why and what she is doing working for the firm, all the while learning how to be more like Olivia. Quinn is pretty yet plain. The rest of the characters are side fillers who you don’t really know much about. The show is in its first season and the show I watch was the 3rd one of the season. You have the President who is a bit wimpy, the vice president who wants to be strong but submits to the president and the president’s wife who knows that he cheated on her with Olivia and actually make’s it happen to where he gets to see her again, because he can’t sleep. Over all I like the episode and I will watch more as they are aired.

HRH Gregory Alive wants to go out to a party tonight it's 10:50 now in Minneapolis. I told him to Read: Role Model then write a one page analysis of the essay.
He read the 5 pages and then submitted this...
"Role moldes in the media are manufactured demi-gods for the masses. They are used to help create a fantasy so that the less than average person (you and i) can look up to and aspire to be like. Role models in the media have a very important job to do, as they stand in a public forum and represent there perspective classes, or in media lingo, perspective demographics. Role models that have been chosen by the media are rarely just a single person, with a voice. These role models have PR people doing there public relations. They have attorneys and agents looking out for their best interest, carefully crafting out the legalities of their agenda and that is to make money. These role models are nothing more than sales men and women, who simply sell, an idea. The idea, being nothing more than, an image. Now don’t get me wrong. Everything has its purpose. What real Role Models do is inspire. They allow the people to dream, have hope, as well as be apart of something. These role models help provide away, for those in need, to escape form the despair of their realities. People in today’s society need that. Fortunately for me, I am a member of The DownLoad Society. My role models are the people that were given to me by my father to surround me in this, my real world, and encourage me to be the best that I can as a member of this society. My role models are my teachers, fellow students, and faculty members. PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT MANUFACTURED BY THE MEDIA. I pause for a second and wonder... is it possible? Nah... As a member of this society I am too, a role model and it is my responsibility to return the encouragement that I so humbly ask for..... as Andy Allo put's it... This is what it feels like, this is what it feels like.. when stars collide"
he is getting dressed as we speak.

So this morning i assigned HRH Gregory Alive the task of writing an informative speech that would last between 3-5. then present that speech to a class. Then capture one speech that he consider to be the best.
He presented this speech:
Informative Speech: Supplies for Walking Across the country
Attention Getter: Have you ever wanted to walk across the country? Thesis: Being well prepared before you start on your journey, makes it all the more possible. Preview: Today I am going to inform you on what you will need in regards to food, shelter and directions in order to take on such a tremendous challenge.
Review: So with having all the proper food, shelter and directions, you have set your self up for a great start making it possible for you to achieve your goal of walking from one coast to the other. Conclusion: I believe that each and every one of you has what it takes to make a walking trip that would take you from one side of the country to the other. It takes a lot of determination, patience, will power and persistence to achieve this task but if I can do it anyone can. Good luck and have a great adventure of a lifetime.
His speech ran 6:48 seconds. He was allowed to go that far without penalty because, after his speech several people made remarks saying that it didn't feel like that much time had gone by.
He passed that portion of the assignment.
As for the the speech he like the best, he captured this one.
When i asked him why this one, he responded.
"I related with her the most. She was extreamly nervous and unconfortable and her topic about being tease and made fun of is something that i can identify with."
How many of you have been teased or been made fun of? How many of you have teased or been made fun of?
Why?

ANDROGYNINE,
I don't want you to think i was being lazy on this assignment, so here is my 3 page "written" paper on Boys Don't Cry.
Boys Don’t Cry
After watching the film Boy’s Don’t Cry in class the other day, I got to thinking about that film. It went through my mind over and over again. What was that film about? Then it just hit me. The core of the film wasn’t about a person who was suffering from “gender identy disorder,” it was actually a love story that was brought to a tragic end. I believe that Brandon’s gender identity disorder was not the reason for his death but instead used as an excuse for the brutality she suffered in the last few days of his life. Sure the lies and misuse of trust that Brandon committed came with consequences, yet in the end Brandon did not die because of this. When it came to light that Brandon was actually Teena, it brought about a lot of confusion. Not only that it brought about a lot of pain. Brandon had a gift of making people feel good about them selves. Something Brandon very much struggled with for a very big portion of his life. Brandon took them outside of the social identity that they were label as, “boring poor white trash.” It was the idea that if Brandon was living a lie then whatever self worth he made them feel, was a lie as well. That is where the hurt came from. But after the dust started to settle they still had compassion for Teena. If given time they would have a chance to gain an understanding of Teena, who after all was just another one of the girls who had issues. Teena’s brutal rape and Brandon’s death wasn’t about the gender identity crisis. The cause of Teena’s rape and Brandon’s death was the result of good old fashion male insecurity. John anger towards Brandon was based off of John’s own vulnerability and weakness. John loved Lana and considered her, his. After all she was the only one who wrote to him while he was in jail. Then comes along Brandon, thougProxy-Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: max-age=0 20very likable, a scrawny chump of a dude who steals the affection of his love interest away. As Brandon, there was nothing John could really do about it, other than set the boundries. That is why he said something along the way of “remember, this is my house.” John’s pursuit to find out the truth about Brandon had nothing to do with “gender identity disorder” but was a reason to oust Brandon from the scene. Teena was an insult to John identity. This is why John reacted to the extremes the way that he did. He raped Teena because Teena took away his masculinity. In Johns mind, it was bad enough to be beaten out by this twirp of a dude, Teena as a girl, masquerading as a boy, proved to be more of a man than John could ever be. This is why John was angry. Him rapping her was all about dominance. John was putting Teena back in her place. John was the man and Teena would be submissive to him. John, in his eyes, would give Teena what Brandon could never give Lana, his manhood. As for Brandon’s death, it had nothing to do with his gender identity disorder. John shot and killed Brandon because John did not want to go back to jail. He killed Brandon, because of his fear of being locked up again and being taken away from the only security/family he knew. Again Brandon’s gender identity crisis was not the reason why he was killed. As for Tom’s involvement he is just a stupid pawn who follows in the footsteps of the alpha male of the film. He can’t think or act on his own, showing no identity of his own takes place in the ritual of male/female dominance. In looking back at the films other characters it’s the females who, in the end, who show what little compassion and understanding for Brandon/Teena condition. The guys are shown as weak and inhumane. This was definitely a chick flick of a film. Though be it a brutal one, at that. It is all the female characters that Brandon hurt the most and at the same time it’s Teena who the male characters hurt the most. The film comes across as very confusing but the core message comes across bold as light. The female characters are the heroines and the male characters are villains. Finally I saw this film as a love story that shows that when a female does find true love, even while masquerading as a male, she when acting outside of the social norm will be met with her demise. In this film the message is boys don’t cry, but girls do. Which is kind of crazy because in this film everyone is crying out in one way or another. This is my understanding of the film, in a nutshell.

ANDROGYNINE,
here is the persuasive speech i had to write.
Drop out of school and move to New York City
AG: Drop out of school and move to New York City Thesis: Making the best of your youth will be very beneficial to your future. Preview: Today day I am going to tell you why now is the best time in your life to move to New York City. You can make a lot of money, challenge your self to the extremes, and gain important contact by making friends in your field of study. I. In New York City it’s important to make money and right now you are at the perfect age to take full advantage of your youth. You have all these fresh new innovative ideas that people of importance will take notice of. You are very attractive which is to your advantage when looking for a job. You can make TONS of money waiting tables, bar tending, selling cloths you design, music you produce, or even just being a artist. II. New York is a great place to challenge your self. If you can make it in New York City you can make it anywhere. It’s the perfect place to forget everything you are expected to be and create the person you are to be and want to be.
III. People in New York are very hard working and driven, it is a very cutthroat environment. People there are always on the move and making things happen. People there are willing to do what ever it takes to get the job done, no questions asked. These are the type of people you want to be around. Either working for them or having them, work for you. It’s these people who will help you get to where you want to be.
Review: now I am not saying that New York is an easy place to be in. But, because you are young and talented you can make a lot of money, challenge yourself by being in extreme situations and all the while making important contacts with people who will help you get to where you want to be. Laying a Foundation for Studying Race, Gender and Media According to this article by Rebecca Ann Lind our society is mediated, meaning to to bring about an agreement or reconciliation. But what I don’t understand is at what point did we find ourselves in disagreement. Media in our society has, if anything brought about a separation within. Making several different classification or framings in our society. What the media has help to establish is that we are no longer are single race (human), but instead many different departments of the human race. By doing this it has established a way of higher archy or class depending on the sub division you belong to. If you are black you are apart of the lowest common denominator and by creating the sterotypes associated with being black, the media has placed an idea into the masses that no matter how “cool” black is, it is still less than par to be black. That goes to with gays and women as well. The media can create ways to make being this or that acceptable so that we can feel like that we as individuals can have a since of belonging. But at the same time alienating us from being apart of someone else’s experience. Special Thanks 2 Paisley Park and The DownLoad Society | |

TV May Perpetuate Race Bias
I tend to agree with the findings of the study talked about in this essay. I find that even today television programs do perpetuate race biases against African-Americans, Latin’s and other groups. You can still find on certain television shows subtle hints of racism towards these groups of people. Is it done on purpose with the writing and direction or is it something subliminal that is passed through by the actors. For instance, in the show “Scandal” you have a lead character that is black and has a high profile position in the community. She is smart, sexy, has intelligence and money. Her job is to take care of troubles that her clients find themselves in. Even with all of this, She has an affair with the President, who is white. What this says in a subtle way is that no matter how smarts, intelligent, rich and in control she is, a black woman will submit to a white man. Of all the characters on this show he is the one she is most vulnerable to. During the scene in which they have the physical affair, he is the one who in control, he tells her what to do, not by asking but by telling her what to do when he says to her, “take off your cloths.” It is also during this sequence it is show that she is the one who disrobes down to her bra and panties. She is left naked, uncontrolled by her desires, spread out across the bed waiting for him to take her at his will. The interesting thing I noticed is that even though she was naked, they had him fully dressed, even down to his shoes. Also in the show they reveal that the two minorities on her team in their past are among the stereotypes society has place on them. The black guy, though good-looking smooth talking and very intelligent is in fact a convicted criminal who is on probation and the Latino guy in his past was a homeless street urchin who’s past was that of a cold hearted killer and torturer hired by the government. Where as the white members of her team, they were revealed to be a pasted battered wife, who escaped from an abusive marriage and a white guy who suffered a mental break down because he was the attorney who got some very bad people acquitted of crimes they did commit. So even though this show is ground breaking for having a African-American female lead having to carry a show on her own. It is still plagued with the stereotypes, though well hidden from plain sight. Does this perpetuate race bias? Until now I would have not thought so but looking more closely at it I would say yes it does. Because it is keeping with the idea that blacks are criminals, Latin’s are inhumane savages and the white woman is still the damsel in distress and that the white guys has a good conscious.
