NEW SONG - Very Controversy-ish.

Take a listen - I posted a bare/raw version of this already, but DAMN I love this song now. THIS one is for the ORG project.

http://www.blindslim.com/...Star69.mp3

Well - okay, just the guitar is Controversy-ish - well - no - the doubled vocals too... so sure, yeah, CONTROVERSY.

AUGH! I think the whole thing was done in the wrong key - my vocals are either looking for low notes, or humping for the octave above. I'm moving the whole thing up to D, see what I can do.

But, then again, I kind like the oddball non-super-rock-star vocals... if I belt it out, it'll come across as Tom Jones-ish. Thanx for the input.

Yeah EVERYONE that hears my stuff says "Yep. there's prince" and on half of them I'm thinkin, "damn, I intentionally tried to avoid it" but what the hell, if it's in you, get it out. That's my take on it now... why try to suppress your influences? P's got Sly and James pumping through his veins, and it's in his songs, so, there you go.

I'm going to put this on a wrecka, I'm sure - setting up an MP3 account, at - get this - http://www.mp3.com/prints HAH!! They haven't approved the songs yet, so nothing's up there.

This one's going on the NFO for sure. I'm going to make some remixes of it once it's good to go, and shoot for local club play.

I read Daniel Bedington's bio, where he recorded "Gotta Get Through This" in his bedroom, and now that song is an international pop hit... I'm all for that! I'd take a national hit. Hell, I'd take a regional hit. I'd even settle for NEIGHBORHOOD hit!! HAH!!

Actually, they are copyrighted already.

If you recorded them, they're copyrighted - you're the only one with the right to make copies.

The problem is that they're not REGISTERED.

(Yep. Wrote an article about this subject too.)

Registering your copyright is pretty easy - the easiest/immediate method is to mail yourself a copy, and don't open the envelope... it's date-stamped by the post office, proving the date you mailed them.

BUT those don't hold up so well when someone comes after YOU on copyright infringement. Take a CD of as many songs as you can fit onto the CD (I actually edit the intros and fadeouts - just use the part of the song with lyrics and/or hook lines, anything that you feel is your idea - obviously the first 16 measures of hihats and kickdrum is hardly worth registering).

Then download the copyright form, fill it out, ship it off the the library of congress. It's $35 - or it was last year. You're not limited in the number of compositions you can submit, nor are you limited to any type of grouping. The application asks you to NAME your collection of songs - but that's not the same as the name of your latest album. You can name the collection "songs 97-03", "demos about cheese" or "my greatest hits so far". Doesn't matter... and they can be from any time period - you're not limited to only registering a group of songs that are somehow, uhh, "grouped" other than that they are songs that you're registering.

Hope this helps. There's sites online that are happy to register your copyrights online for up to $100, but don't be an idiot. It's $35 if you do it yourself. Send them a cassette, cd, paper with lyrics and notes about the song - whatever you're able to send them.

I write for Performer - they put out 4 localized mags - Northeast Performer, Southeast Performer, and whatever else - Midwest, Way West? I dunno about the other two.

We get Southeast Performer down here. But my stuff goes into all four versions of the mag.

Their site (performermag.com) doesn't archive the articles, but I did. If'n y'all are interested:
