Whether you want it or not

A new day is rising

Whether it is cold or hot

What is the new reality?

Living with daily insecurity

Work, food, and shelter

Worry folks helter-skelter

As they dart, wrestle, and run

Sew ragged seams of their lives

Pushing back the grim reaper

Or the Snidley Whiplash

Knocking at their door

Wanting rent and more

Than they can afford

Or re-possessing

The modest home

The paid pension

The life-time position

That was once guaranteed

This, my friend,

Is what is left

Of the American Dream

A faulty proposition at best

Now that the bubble has burst

What remains is the worst

How does the ordinary man

Rise above the death of a dream?

How do you plot and scheme

Manage to pull your self

Up by your own boot strap

When there are no jobs left

To even pay for the slap

Of hands shining boot leather?

The New Dawn is Here

And left for us to condone
