I wasn’t so impressed

With your shady ways

Dancing in the same

Strange daze

Shady characters

We were together

In our hedonistic haze

Life was a wicked chance

Promise of a fun tomorrow

Full of forbidden romance

No foreboding of future sorrow

Friends turn into lovers

All too many times

What once seemed real and solid

Becomes the same ole rhyme

People cling to each other

When they don’t belong

Don’t know when it’s over

Don’t know right from wrong

Two halves once whole

Repel each other

Like negative magnets

Togetherness an illusion

Captured in youth

By a temporal allusion

To a myth of immortality

Which we, somehow,

Believed.

But…did you once ever see me

Past our own wicked dreams

Did you ever once see me

Past your own selfish schemes

Did I really want to know you

Past what I wanted to see

Or did you wear the mask

Of what I wanted you to be

Maybe, I never really saw you

Just as you never saw me.
