The Final Time
I lie with you Knowing that you Betray me with another Though you think That I don't know I have known For all too long.
I lie with you knowing It might be the final time I make love to you Because for you and I It is all too wrong You just don't know Where you belong And, because of that, Neither do I anymore.
It has become a chore This intimacy between us At one time we were Best friends... Then life changed us Into occasional lovers.
You hold secrets to your heart You never can reveal So can we even begin to heal If you won't tell your oldest friend That you never desired me In the first place
For you, life is a race To the next secret assignation To the next set of denials Lined up to keep your facade Of straight-minded respectability.
But I acknowledge what You think the world cannot You hold the unspeakable desire An undeniable fire For your secret lovers.
This, I cannot change And though it causes me grief I can't comprehend It is long past the time You and I need to speak, My lifelong friend.
"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato
