The Morning Sun
You and I have an intimate Knowledge of each other Pain and pleasure Written in our bones The grinding of grit Against stone The slow wearing down Of seasons and sensibilities Of sharing dreams Which hatched into schemes To get what we wanted In a perfect world We'll never find We're two of a kind Born of one mind Who bucked the rat race To pursue a sense of place Which never existed Except on the peripharies Living on the edges Of what society insisted That we should be Or not We were caught In the shadows of change Forcing us to rearrange Everything that had gone before To confront what generations Before us chose to ignore The passing of a dream Into wakening reality Promises of a future Snatched away Tryiing to form A new sensibility For what makes No sense at all It's no wonder Idols topple Illusions fall We don't trust Each other anymore Both too ready To walk out the door Bruised and confused With the knowledge This war is now done It's long past time To face the morning sun
