The original Kid ..or a new Kid ?

The audition were held right across from 1st Ave. The Kid in this production was born after 1984.

The Auditions were a success and the team was AMAZING. For the most part "James" is casted. The calls to those actors how got the parts goes out tomorrow and will be made personally by DreamFirstBorn, Jew

The Executive Director stopped by and spent about 1/2 hour watching the proceeding and was very please with how things were running smoothly and how they were done in a professional manner. She left feeling completely secure in DreamFirstBorn, Jew's choices.

The opening act is the introduction of the lead character and the circumstances that control him. The scene opens up with James walking on his way home from work. It’s early morning. The setting is of a lower working class neighborhood, safe and friendly, but not posh like uptown. Not the ghetto either, but close to it.

Enters into the frame is red Nissan centra, parking at the stop sigh. It’s Sam. He is distracted by something in the car and doesn’t see James right away. James enters the yard and then the house. Sam notices James just as he is about to enter the house.

Sam, building his dominace over James, has words with him. As the intensity increases, the event begins.

I want to shot this scene to be as honest as possible but, being as raw and gritty as possible. This scene is an expression of love and how it is violated. It will be the scene that will follow the second act, but takes place before.

The second scene is where the beauty of the story dwells. I want this scene to take place in a very intimate setting. James, the lead, will be at his most vulnerable. He will be naked. When Lee and Marie enter the scene, they nature this vulnerablity. This scene will tell the story of three individual who are share the same love for one another. I want this scene to show how the three of them are close, they are like a single entity. But an unexpected change in the cituation leads to a whole new beginning. This scene will be the love scene between the three characters. This scene will also reveal the reasons why the actions have taking place in the first act. Its because of the love for one another and the sacrafice that has taken place. the lead character then advances to the third act.

In the third and final act the lead character will be completey different, more mature. He will be well dressed, professional and well protected. This scene opens up with a swirling cup of coffee revealing a new character who is looking up and calls out to the lead character as he is entering the building. There will be security all around him but he will appear to be aloof to it. He enters the class room and interrupts the lecture.

Conversation insures

Professor then triggers the memory of where the lead character has come from in the film and this leads to the the lead back to the first act where it left off. The lead character finishes out the first act.

I asked him to fill it in with details, in the meantime..

Casting has begun for this project.

The film is scheduled to be 10 minutes long. But with dialogue rewrites the script is now running 15 pages. With film standards each page representing a minute on film this may be a 15 minute film. Of course editing will play a major factor in it.

The calls go out today and the shooting schedule has been put in place.

Next is securing the locations and getting a 5 million dollar insurance policy.

As well as securing the crew for the production.

the departments include:

* posistion filled.

DreamFirstBorn, Jew has his firt production meeting on shedule for tues 25th of oct. He has until friday to complete his crew.

So i have now have James, Lee, Sam, and the Security Guard casted. I have made calls to the actors that i have offered the roles to, but i still don't have them confirmed. Those parts are for Marie and The Professor.

today i called everyone who auditioned and thanked them for showing interest in the production of "James." The ones who didn't get the parts were the hardest calls. For the most part they were cool about it. I told them that i would be producing something soon after i finish this production and that i would keep them in mind.

I have also signed up for 3 other films as a crew member. Alot of people are showing interest in being apart of my film. I have a big responsiblity to uphold, it's not just me anymore.

I presented my crew list to my executive producer. She looked at it and then said, "do you mind if i write on this." I replied, "by all means." She added the following crew memebers:

Camera Assist

gaffer - lighting supervisor

2 grip - (additional for jib arm)

* Audio - mixer and boom operator (possibly 2)

wardrobe/makeup artist and an assistant

a prop master

and a Script Supervisor.

I will be recruiting these members by tuesday.

The DownLoad Society is growing.

ANDROGYNINE i got word from the owner of the location in which we want to shoot 2 scenes for has gotten back to me and wants me to send him all the information regarding the production before he allows us to use The White House as a location for the production of "James."

So i wrote him this cover letter and i have all the attachment ready to send. Please read it over and edit it if nessary. Here is the cover letter:

Hello Blake,

Thanks for taking my call yesterday and assisting me with this situation. As per our conversation, I am sending you all the information regarding this class assignment that I have mentioned to you. I have included the following as attachments.

1. the plot synopsis to my film.

2. The complete equiptment master list

3. My artist statement for the film

4. A portion of the script.

5. Cast and Crew list and their duties and roles they will provide in the production.

6. Production Budget

This is a class assignment and the production will be under the guidance of my professor, Barbara W., who is also a 6 time Emmy Award winner for producing and directing. With the exception of Keith M., a lease holder of the unit, all of the crew will be members of my class.

The planned shooting days are both November 5^th and November 6^th and the parts of the house that we plan to use for the two scenes in this production, are The Common Area on the first floor, as well as, the Bathroom on the second floor.

This project is not for distribution to the public, and is not for profit. This is strictly a classroom assignment.

The private learning institution I am attending, AI, MN provides an insurance policy for this production that carries up to 5 million dollar, which covers the dates of the shoot and up to 30 days following, should be needed.

Thanks for taking part in this experiences. To answer your question, yes. DreamFirstBorn, Jew is a real person. as for the homo-erotica, that's an interesting look at the story. Though not intended i can see how you can come to the conclusion.

Maybe we should let DreamFirstBorn, Jew comment on that.

so this i did. After recieving this information and talking it over with my Executive Producer. She told me that that happens in the industry and not to worry, she had confidence in me because i was well organized. She told me to just breath and the solution will come to me.

I was still stresssed out to the point of having a panick attack while hidden in the bathroom at the institution. It was there I said to myself, fuck it. Not meaning i was going to give up, but rather i wasn't going to let it freak me out amymore more than it already was. One week until shooting and having your location fall through can be a hugh thing, considering all the time and planning that went into it. So instead of running around like a chicken with no neck, i went to the movies to excape. I saw Ides of March.

While in the theater watching the film completely removed from the situation, that calm voice came over me and said "hey man, what about that place near, The Mansion, the one with the for rent sign. Why don't you call up the owner." I though, hmmmmmm. So after the film i walked home and as i passed by that house i took down the number and called the owner.

She was very pleasent and very interested in the idea. So we set up an appointment for this morning to do a walk through of the house. I met with her and she was kind and gracious. I showed her my production book and talked with her about the project. I told her what my budget was and what the production could afford. We settled on $160 dollars. She would have gone lower my instints told me but i just wanted to make sure i could seal the deal. Her mother was there as well and she kept asking me how much they were going to have to pay. it was funny. The owner of the house kept saying "no mother he is paying us." lol. it was cute. We came to an agreement on the terms, and i gave her the money, which put a BIG DENT in my pocket. She signed the location agreement and now "James" has a home.

It was worth it though having that security, knowing that my location is locked down and in place, takes alot of pressure off of me. I did nProxy-Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: max-age=0 want to shut down the production because i didn't have a location. Imagine how embarrasing that would have been telling everyone the shoot was canceled because we didn't have a place to shoot, so close to the planned shooting days. The shame of it.

The funniest part was after i gave the owner, the money, she said to her mother "see now you can go get your nails done." Her mother grabbed the money and was all smiles.

"James" will begin shooting on Nov. 5 as planned.

Tomorrow we have our offical pre porduction meeting.

ANDROGYNINE the butterflies are dancing in my stomach. The crew is 15 deep plus 5 actors. This is the largest crew i have ever worked with.. So different that the shoots back in New York City, where it was Dr. Paluga and I plus a couple of production assistants for The DownLoad Society.

here we go.

ANDROGYNINE i just got the insurance policy for the filming of "James." WOW $5,000,000. I have never seen so many zero's attached to my name. I think i just got an erection.

2 things for you to think about:

(1) I was approached a few days ago by and jewely designer who is interested in doing a "product" placement in your film. I told him it was your decision as to wether it would be possible or not. I will leave the samples on your desk at the Mansion.

(2) with tomorrow being the production meeting with the entire cast and crew, just breath and remember everyone who is partisapating in this production want to do their best. So let them. You will be fine and everyone trust your artistic vision. Believe in yourself and trust your cast and crew.

Also i have gotten word from the adminstration at the institute and you have been selected to represent the students at the Institute, in a regional review for acredition.

i know this is a lot on your shoulders for now but i have full faith in your abilities.

Continue to be you and make a great movie. This is your vision and your dream. let it unfold and watch the magic happen.

This Experience is about to begin.

It's almost 2012, my time clock must be slow.

The first day of shooting is complete. It was an intense day on the set. DreamFirstBorn, Jew and his crew did an amazing job today. The Cast was beyond amazing and i personally can't wait for day 2 of shooting in this experience.

we were going to post some behind the scenes photos, but we will wait until it's a wrap on these 2 days of filming.

Though we didn't get to go to the show, because shooting went long, we still want to give a shout out The Original 7ven for stopping in town to mark this occasion with magic.

well primary shooting for the film "James" is now complete and i must say, this has been one of the most emotionally exhausting, draining, hard working projects i have ever taken on.

with all of the pre-production and producing that went into this project i can honestly say i now have a better understanding on what goes on behind the scenes of a project of this caliber. i don't think i had amagine what was instore from me both mentally and emotionally. When i wrote this story i was just basically taking something from a prior experience and jotting it down on paper. What i truelly did expect to do, in some sence, was to revisit that experience and then watch it happen again, this time from a different point of view. it was kinda of heart breaking for me in a way. I don't know if i would do it again if i was asked to.

One another point. It was the most rewarding experience i have ever had as an artist. Watching this experience come to life right before my eyes. From watching the actors read the lines for the first time in auditions to actually watching them recreate the create the charactors and bring the emotional depth that was needed to make this film have a touch of reality which made the whole process a magical experience.

On the first day of shooting it was interesting to watch all of the crew members turn away during one scene as it intensified. At one point after i called out cut, i had to get up and leave the set for a moment, just to keep from breaking down and crying. The actors in this film are truelly amazing and gave 110% of themselves to recreate the vision i had for this film.

On the second day of shooting it was very fun and carefree. It is reflected in the footage we captured. We had one of the actors in a bathtub naked in a bath tub for almost 5 hours. LOL, it was a bit unconfortable for us all at first but after an hour or so, it was just all very natural. We began to see his nakedness as being part of his wardrobe. I have a level of respect for Ethan, unlike any level i have had with anyone i have worked with before. He was truely generous with himself towards the charactor of James.

Christian and Lisa were to of the most amazing actors i have worked with. They were fun, fully prepared and without any ego at all. I loved working with them. Christian performance was so rewarding that i actually believe the scene he is in he actually stole it and made it all his. Christian will go far if he keep up with his desires to act.

All of the Actors in this film are working professionals in the Minneapolis area and are working on big projects in this reigon.

The crew for the first 2 days of shooting were professional and mature considering the nature of the film. It was great working with this crew because they are my peers. They express a honest to good respect for me as a director and all said that they would most definately work with me again on anything that i was involved in.

The 3 day of shooting was crazy and chaotic. It was the easiest scene in the script but the most difficult to film. I am a little upset about certain things that happen and didn't happen but as the director of the project i have no one to blame other than myself. I was at the helm of the project and things should have gone my way. For those of you who may be in this position i will say this to you. Don't relequish any create decisions to anyone you don't feel is compitent just for the sake of saving time and being kind enough to share responsiblilites. Stay true to your vision and your dream.

It was a crazy 3rd day and we did get the shots that we as a whole wanted but for me as the director and creator of this vision there are somethings that i am not satisified with. At one point after reviewing all of the footage i was so upset i thought to myself i wish all of this was erased and we could do it again.... the craziest part was right after i thought that my director of photographer said, "ohhh no, i think i just deleted all of todays footage." he went into a panic when he discovered that he did in fact delete all of the shoots taken for the scene in question. More than half of the days shots were gone. I was upset but relieved at the same time, more interesting enough i was amazing at how powerful my thoughts were.

Soon after we retrieved the SD cards non of which had been reformatted and for the most part all of the material was saved.

I was also asked to work on a few projects from the other film makers i worked with during this production. Which was really nice considering i have always loved working as an actor.

I don't regret what we have done in the slightest and i can't wait for the editing process to be complete. I want to finish this project to its completion and i am dedicated to it to the fullest.

One of the best parts of this is when i was sitting having a chat with my Executive Producer and she was telling me how she worked with Prince on a couple of videos. It was great to hear what it was like to be on one of his sets and how he was as a person and an artist from someone who was actually there and believed in him enough to help he recreate his vision. I hope someday that those who i have worked with on this project and projects from the past, will say the same about me.

It was an amazing experience, but i am so exhausted now that i need to go and be detached from it for just a couple of days. Then back to work on it until it is complete.

I was able to use the Mansion as my production office, all of the equiptment was on loan from the Art Institutes International, MN, my crew are all friends and members of The DownLoad Society and we agree to trades, I work on their projects and they work on the production of "James."

I am Assistant director for one, script supervisor for another, and i will be acting in 3 productions.

With one of my Executive Producers i agreed to do a documentry on one of his passions which is the Peace Corp. We are in pre productions for that now and he gave me an small advance on that project, to which that money went into the production of James. Because he was generous to do that he got Executive Producer credits.

with the actors I bartered with Lisa that i would that great headshots for her, Christian and Joel they really liked the material and just wanted a finished product on DVD.

Ethan and i agreed that i would build his profolio. We had several photo shoots where I shot several images of him, in various looks and styles (he looks better in my cloths than i do) and we also shot 3 different short films One of which was selected for showing at The BlockHead Film Festival here in Minneapolis.

Most of my budget went to location fees, catering, transportation for equipment and various production cost.

so far spent from my budget is $786.32. One of the fun parts of this production was the negotiation process. This was a team effort, were everyone but put forth there best and collaborated as a whole to make this experience possible.

so from $176,903.28 down to $786.32 i would like to think that it is possible to get something done that your passionate about with out having to worry about money. There are many artist out there who just want to create. And when you believe in your project others will too and they will do what they can to help you achieve your goal.
