This will be the behind the scenes look at the making of this film with the ending being the premiere showing here on prince.org.

ANDROGYNINE Continues...

one of the first steps to producing this film i asked DreamFirstBorn, Jew to come up with a budget accourding to industry standards. After several days of research here is a list of what his budget included:

Next i wanted to know what the character discriptions were of each character in the film, so i had DreamFirstBorn, Jew write a character discription of the cast in short detail. He submitted the following:

1. James – 18 to 23 quiet, insecure, intelligent. Has been abandon by his family and his only true connection is with Marie and Lee. He depends on Lee and Marie for emotional support. He is secretly in love with both of them. James listens to a lot of Prince music. He doesn’t know who he is yet. His only desire in life is to be love, to fill that void within him. James is loyal and trustworthy. James is quiet and doesn’t really speak much. James tells all his secrets to Lee. James kinda see’s Lee and Marie as not only his best friends but also like mother and father figures. James is complex yet simple.

2. Sam – 45 to 50 strong personality, dominating, manipulative, loves his daughter marie but uses her for his own gain. Deals drugs, and can be a good guy but there are hidden motives behind it. He is poor white trash, with lots of street smarts.

3. Lee – 18 to 23 tall, good looking, not so book smart, but very street smart. High school drop out. Loves Marie but can be aggressive towards her. Very passive aggressive. Loves James and feels James is his only true friend. He knows James is in love with him, but doesn’t acknowledge it. Secretly he is in love with him as well. Knows how to fix a car but has trouble spelling the name of it. Is very family oriented. Dreams of being a father unlike the one he had.

4. Marie – 18 – 23 Beautiful, bossy, wears the pants in Her and Lee’s relationship, but lets Lee think he does. Marie has OCD. She is very artistic. Loves doing arts & craft, crossword puzzles, and spending money. She is a kelptomanic. She loves her father and has a lot of his charactoristics but doesn’t know it. She was abused as a child and clings to Lee for stability. Lee is the oppisate of her father in some ways but like him in many.

5. Professor – 35- 40 Direct with no paticense. Wears glasses and is balding. Know what his subject is, well. Most of his students like him. But there is something sinister about him.

6. Christina – 22- 25 plain jane who has a crush on James.

7. Security Guard – 60’s very strick regarding people showing their id. He takes his job seriously but the students like him. He can be fun if you show him your id.

After reviewing this list of character discriptions, I met with DreamFirstBorn, Jew and in that meeting i asked him to give me a plot synopsis. I wanted him to give me his idea of what the film story would be about.

He submitted the following:

"James"

Plot Synopsis

This is a story about control and vulnerability. James, through a series of actions, in the first act is controlled by Sam. Sam takes advantage of his vulnerability.

In the second act James is controlled not by Lee and Marie but by the love he has for them. His vulnerability in this act is nurtured. Lee’s in this act shares his vulnerability with James, when the two of them are left alone. They comfort one another. Marie though very strong is vulnerable the moment she see something between Lee and James that she has no control over. She can control the situation but she can’t control what they share.

In the third act Lee is in complete control and is not vulnerable at all until he is reminded of his past by a certain twist of events, things that his Professor brings to his attention. At that moment he is again vulnerable and controlled by someone else. Which takes you back to the first act’s conclusion.

How lovely with serious film making here !

My dream movie to make would begin with water - a horizon across the sea..

next i had DreamFirstBorn, Jew write me out an artist statement. How did he see this film. For his first attempt he submitted this.

The opening act is the introduction of the lead character and the circumstances that control him. The scene opens up with James walking on his way home from work. It’s early morning. The setting is of a lower working class neighborhood, safe and friendly, but not posh like uptown. Not the ghetto either, but close to it.

Enters into the frame is red Nissan centra, parking at the stop sigh. It’s Sam. He is distracted by something in the car and doesn’t see James right away. James enters the yard and then the house. Sam notices James just as he is about to enter the house.

Sam, building his dominace over James, has words with him. As the intensity increases, the event begins.

I want to shot this scene to be as honest as possible but, being as raw and gritty as possible. This scene is an expression of love and how it is violated. It will be the scene that will follow the second act, but takes place before.

The second scene is where the beauty of the story dwells. I want this scene to take place in a very intimate setting. James, the lead, will be at his most vulnerable. He will be naked. When Lee and Marie enter the scene, they nature this vulnerablity. This scene will tell the story of three individual who are share the same love for one another. I want this scene to show how the three of them are close, they are like a single entity. But an unexpected change in the cituation leads to a whole new beginning. This scene will be the love scene between the three characters. This scene will also reveal the reasons why the actions have taking place in the first act. Its because of the love for one another and the sacrafice that has taken place. the lead character then advances to the third act.

In the third and final act the lead character will be completey different, more mature. He will be well dressed, professional and well protected. This scene opens up with a swirling cup of coffee revealing a new character who is looking up and calls out to the lead character as he is entering the building. There will be security all around him but he will appear to be aloof to it. He enters the class room and interrupts the lecture.

Conversation insures

Professor then triggers the memory of where the lead character has come from in the film and this leads to the the lead back to the first act where it left off. The lead character finishes out the first act.

I asked him to fill it in with details, in the meantime..

Casting has begun for this project.

Last night the first round of auditions took place.

The actors were called in to meet at The Art Institute and a reading took place using ACT 2.

During the reading DreamFirstBorn, Jew read the part of Marie and the other two actors read the other two parts.

It was read several times over, with DreamFirstBorn, Jew giving some directions to the actors.

It was a good read through and all were very pleased with the out come.

I had some minor reservation about the actors, but i trust in the vision that DreamFirstBorn, Jew has for this film.

I like the way he worked with the actors. When the two guys show up at 6pm, everyone introduced themselves to one another and then DreamFirstBorn, Jew gave them the script and told them which scene they would be reading and left the room leaving the two guys alone to go over the scene.

He stood outside the room actually and listened in on them as they read through the scene. I asked him what he was doing and he told me that he wanted to see if there was any chemistry between the two. I told him they just met. He responded by saying James & Lee's chemistry is and i quote "A-U-T-O-MATIC"

After a few moments he stepped back into the room and asked everyone if they were confortable with the scene. Everyone agreed and the read through proceeded.

DreamFirstBorn, Jew read for the part of Marie, as the two actors read for the parts of James & Lee

After about 4 different times, each time DreamFirstBorn, Jew gave to both actors each time as to how he wanted the lines delivered. It was done. I think he was very much happy with these actors because afterwards he began giving them the back story of the characters they were reading for. I was quite impress with all the information that he gave them. He knows these characters deeply. It was nice seeing him share this with the actors. DreamFirstBorn, Jew is showing an honest to goodness passion in regards to this project.

While he is assembling his production team for this film DreamFirstBorn, Jew asked HRH Gregory Alive to be his location scout. He gave him a general idea of what he wanted the set to look like visually, a copy of SCENE 3 and what the budget estimates would allow for 2 days of shooting at the location.

A few days later HRH Gregory Alive returned back to the production offices with his location scouting form completed for the scene.

ANDROGYNINE here is the list of things that must be accomplished before i begin principle shooting for the production of "James."

I will break this list down into departments in no specific order.

Note: * are things already accomplished.

DEPARTMENTS

Costume Department

1. WARDROBE MASTER LIST *

2. Hire a wardrobe Mistress/Master

3. Review costumes and approve or denie

4. Have fittings with actors

5. Make sure there is a Wardrobe Area at location that provides the following:

- Dressing Room *

- Wardrobe storage area *

- Mirrors, lights, access to water *

- an Iron or steamer *

Props Department

1. Master Prop List *

2. Hire a Prop Master

3. Make sure there is a Props Area at location *

4. Test all Props

5. Meeting with Prop Master

- choose or denie props

- update scene breakdowns as necessary, for props

6. Make sure there is an assistant for Prop Master

Make-Up Department

1. Hire a make up artist

2. Make sure there is a camera on hand for still images of before and after make up is applied

LOCATION DEPARTMENT

1. Lock down and secure locations *

- make sure legal forms and/or release forms are signed and dated

- all paperwork is complete for proof of insurance, for the property owner, up to $5 Million

The Casting call went out friday afternoon. As of today there have been over 35 request to audition for this project. The casting director is working closely with DreamFirstBorn, Jew in selecting those who strick an interest with them.

As Audtion notices went out last week, there were over 35 requests to come in and read for the various parts.

In dealing with the volume of request i had DreamFirstBorn, Jew construct 2 letters.

1. a letter acceptance.

2. a letter of rejection.

Thank you ***** for your interest in the production of "James." I am currently reserving time slots for auditions on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011. I would like you to come in and read for the part of Lee. You will need the following items:

1. a contemporary dramatic monologue no longer than 2 minutes and preferable from a play.

2. be prepared to do a cold reading, scene from script.

3. be prepared to do a brief improv scene.

2. some sort of ID for security at front door.

When you arrive you will be greeted by Ty Titus, the production coordinator and he will give you further instructions.

I currently have a slot available at 7:15pm, 7:45pm and 8:00pm (scheduled time slots per actor). If you are available for one of these time slots please respond back to me as soon as possible, so that i can reserve the slot for you.

I am very impressed by your work, but unfortunately we are looking in a different direction for the part of Lee and James. However I would like to keep your information on file as there are several project in the future that we will be producing and i feel that your talents may be showcased better at that time.

These message went out yesterday afternoon. Now the conformation process begins.

After review over 50 submission the casting call is complete and auditions are schedule for Tuesday Oct. 18, 2011.

These audition will be held from 4pm to 8pm at a secret location in Minneapolis. Each candidate is scheduled for a 15 minute audition. The process is schedule to go as follows.

When the actor arrives they will at the location and be signed in by security. From there they will be greeted by one of the production assistants, where they will be given an actors packet that will include an audition form, a plot summary of the story, an artist statement by the director, and a release form. Once that is completed the actor will be escorted to a waiting room, on the second floor, by the production corrdinator. Once they arrive there will be a short meet and greet with the director and then they will proceed with the audition.

The audition process is schedule for 15 minutes and the production corrdinator has been instructed by DreamFirstBorn, Jew to make sure that the audition does not go longer than the 15 minutes scheduled, even if he LOVES the actors performance.

once the audition is complete the actor will be thanked for their time, thier interest in the production, and then be given a date will the selections will be made. They then will be escorted back downstairs to the main floor and then the process will repeat with the next actor.

The entire time from 4pm to 8pm has been booked solid with auditions, with the exception of a 15 minute break at the half way mark.

Everyone on this team has been personally selected by DreamFirstBorn, Jew and he has full confidence in their performance..... I over heard him telling the production corrdinator after asking him what his clothing size was, confusing the production corrdinator, that this was the stage portion of the production of James and that everyone in this production had a staring role.

The next faze of this production is recruiting the Production Team, setting up the shooting schedule, and preparing for the production meeting that will include everyone included in this production.
