Unmoving sticky emerald swamp,

Boats that troll Louisiana’s veins,

Elusive Ivory-billed woodpecker still unseen,

Yet rumors persist it can be viewed again,

Wander ye vessels in the thicket,

The Delphian agony hidden in pine and maple,

Mistaken echoes of crags and creaks for this avian spector,

The ivory-bill long ago retired into fable,

Such is the childhood of man,

Seeking desperately to recapture that virgin spell,

Youth unfettered by conscience born of heartbreak,

Ye sail your pontoon blindly in the sticky emerald hell.

Hopelessly listening for the trill.
