new groove: fat guitars, BIRD/AMERICA type groove I'm still reworking this song. This is the latest version.
As Good As it's Ever Gonna Get (I spose I should shorten the title, I just can't think of a better title yet). http://www.blindslim.com/1g4d Tell me what U think. [This message was edited Fri Feb 14 22:40:46 PST 2003 by otan] The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Wow, that was great! Tight band and fantastic vocals.
I'm impressed, I didn't know you had a band and such. Beside the title (how bout shorten it to 'As good as it's ever gonna get'?) I wouldn't change a thing about it. Very full sound. U probly already du that 1, lol! from Izaiah Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I dont hear where ur getting the Bird or America from this, because it doesnt sound like any of those. from Izaiah Ehh, well, it STARTED out sounding a LOT like the Bird - with the Jellybean drums (similar to Gonna Be A beautiful Night) and the verses reminded me of the delivery of America - hi energy constant uptempo driving thing. But good - so it doesn't sound like those now. Great. That's the goal, start off being influenced by a few songs, and in the end, you've made something that's all yours. Thanks Izaiah! I like it- the beginning drums are like "The Bird" or It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night"...as it progresses it takes on a Dave Matthews Band feel, only a bit funkier than DMB.

OTAN-
YOU ROCK! I love this stuff. I love "she's too rich" and all of the other songs for that matter. Have a CD I can buy so I can actually support this? [This message was edited Thu Feb 13 11:09:25 PST 2003 by JamesMarshallHendrix]

YOU ROCK! I love this stuff but I'm not sure since none of the songs have the title that this thread started with. I love "she's too rich" and all of the other songs for that matter. Have a CD so I can actually support this? Thanks!!! No CD yet. These are songs in the works, I'm still making revisions, lyrically, arrangement, etc. I've got about 8 more that I'm putting together to start sending out to labels. Not looking for a deal. Looking to SELL these to somebody else that can SING and can TOUR. I'm just a homebody. Oh - and the original song in question was AS GOOD. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I am kinda the same way, Otan- I don't necessarily want to be famous as a solo artist. Making music, producing, and writing for other artists would be cool since I don't have the "image" of a pop star (big muscles, model look, real skinny, etc). Like I told a friend the other day, even donating music to one of my mentors like Prince, Bootsy, George Clinton, Larry Graham, St. Paul, etc...that would be very cool, just to share it with them and be friends. dang Otan, you call that rough? It sounds already good enough to be a demo to me. You write nice, catchy, memorable music, which is a lot more than many people with deals can say. Nice work once again! Keep it up and keep on playing out, you'll find someone to sell your work to for sure. It's good!
PS: the reason some people can't find the file in the original link you provided is that the song is not in the /sounds directory.

You know how it is - you can't hear your own stuff without hearing every little mistake and just ripping it apart... knowing that what you recorded ain't exactly what's in your head.
But I'm glad y'all like it. I like the stuff too. Gotta go finish 4 more!! The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Well Otan I'd like to provide some constructive feedback for you, but I'm not really qualified to comment on popular music (I'm learning classical piano). But at least I can say that this is a really cool piece. It moves well, it's catchy and despite what you say it doesn't sound rough.
I'd love to hear something with subject matter like She's Too Rich with the movement of As Good As It Gets. In a couple of hundred years historians may discover that Prince's lyrics were written by Christopher Marlowe.

Here's my latest - a slow deep, "sometimes it snows in april" mood... about a girlfriend/best friend that died from Leukemia 17 years ago.Still miss her. http://www.blindslim.com/...imes_1.mp3 The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3
