the beat goes on

Saw where PaisleyPark4 said he spends most his time coming up with unique drum beats.

And then, I go and listen to Prince.

He uses the same beat on AT LEAST the following songs - see if you can name more:

Head
Erotic City
DMSR
1+1+1=3
Billyjackbitch

You know the beat - you're bread and butter funk beat - boom-pop-boom-boom-pop. repeat.

Ain't nothing WRONG with that beat. You oughtta pick it up and go for it.

Seems like a slow day 'round here! Where my pips at?

One of my favorite drum arrangements isn't really drums at all, but a programmed beat- "The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker".

That is a nice drum sound. I dig the common funk beats as well, and I incorporate them into my music quite often too. 2 Much Cute is just drum-hit-drum-hit, straight up 2 and 4, while "Do Something Freaky" is drum-hit-drumdrum-hit. Now, Fo-Fo is all mixed up, just like the "Fo-Fo" in real life- bwahaaahaa!(in my Morris voice)

Doesn't Something in the Water repeat? It's a little more than boom-pop-boom-boom-pop though. I guess some songs don't need too much variation. All of my patterns just repeat, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I need a groovy drum programmer.

I waz checkin' out what Otan waz saying about the beatz 2 some of theze songz B'ing the same. Head N Erotic City, BJB
R not Xactly the same, the Kick N Snare R close but N different time. + the hi-hat patternz R different 2. But Prince does use the Xact drum beatz over N over. (There iz 1 song on Larry Grahamz GCS2000 CD that haz the same Xact beat az BJB) Michael Bland does get the credit 4 the drums even though he wasn't around at the time.
F we az a People R not.......
Then we az a people should B.....

UNITED 4 LOVE
