Guitar specialists/connoisseurs, some advice on buying a guitar...

Two years ago my friends bought me a Yamaha acoustic guiter, and I've been learning on it, ever since... Now I wanna go for an electric guitar... What would you recommend?

So far, I've found (second-hand at quite reasonable prices) these items for sales in my city

- A Gibson

- A Fender

- An Ibanez

- Some obscure brands 'a la Ibanez', 'a la Gibson', etc...

To be honest, I really don't know the difference... Do they sound that different, even if I'm using a pedal effects??

I'll play some funk, rock, and 80s New wave (the '1980s' guitar sound a la the Cure, Duran Duran is what interests me the most). What guitar would suite better?

Thanx in advance for your advice...

Everybody is somebody, but nobody wants to be themselves.

WWW.Estebanmusic.com. He sells guitars, videos, etc. The prices are affordable and the guitars are very good quality. Esteban also sells his guitars on HSN(Home Shopping Network).

Hey there FrenchGuy

thumbs up!

Two years ago my friends bought me a Yamaha acoustic guiter, and I've been learning on it, ever since.

O.K. , so how do you enjoy playing your Acoustic Guitar ? Two years is awhile, you should be pretty competent...

What would you recommend?

It's a really personal thing actually.

Really the only "no tears" method is to pick the guitar up and play it. If the shape, weight, size, sound excite you, and the tone also sounds to your liking heck that's gotta be a bonus, are you with me ?

It's very much a hands on situation.

My 17 year old son bought an Electric guitar initially, I paid, as he was about 14 at the time. I ended up getting him a Fender Squier package. Not real cheap, and including a Fender practice Amp.

When it came to an Acoustic guitar recently he went to the store himself and played a lot of guitars until one just felt right. It felt right to me too, you can hear it.

So best advice I can offer is get your hands on a Electric Guitar and play it. There are heaps of variables like marrying an Amp to the guitar, people spend years looking for a guitar, if you just want to become familiar with the Genre, don't spend too much money, the price New, around $250 to $300 U.S. , plus a suitable Amp, whether your gonna play at home, on stage , etc.

That's about it, as far as writing down my thoughts, nothing compares to playing a guitar, and most importantly deciding what sound you want, having that sound in your mind before approaching the quest probably the most important factor, then what happens whilst playing.

Plus, not always is the big name guitar going to be your choice, Fender, and Gibson have their lower priced brands Squier, and Epiphone, which are up to standard, but obviously not to the same standard, even though they can be close and are very old trusted companies.

These days there's some HOT Japanese guitars, like ESP, Fernades, which have had great appeal as they are customised to specific instructions from the buyer.

Metallica handle ESP Guitars in America ...

Obviously you're looking for something in your area and have found :

- A Gibson

- A Fender

- An Ibanez

They're all excellent companies, till you look at the guitar you wont know what shape it's in, i.e., beaten up, etc.

What standard of player are you ?

What do you want to do with the guitar ?

How much do you have to spend ?

Do you love the thing when you touch it, it must be love at first sight thumbs up!

Heck, I just wrote a book, best of luck lol
