I should state, before I go any further, that I’m not here to deliver some hoity-toity semiotic lecture about post-war Japan’s most successful cultural export like some fancy-pants professor, to discuss the far-reaching political influence Godzilla has had upon North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il, who kidnapped a film director in 1985 to make his own giant monster movie, Pulgasari, or even his influence on pop-culture, including everything from hip hop to monster trucks.
