New Funk Order: Project meeting #1 This is project meeting number one for the New Funk Order. I wanted to let you know that I have one of my two tracks complete for this compilation. I will be working on the second track tonight. Here is what I propose for the CD, since we have limited capabilities to work together on tracks. First and foremost, we need to have a focus on this, and get the tracks together. Second, we must be funky, and make music accordingly. I want you to give up some funk on these songs. Third, we must share ideas with each other (as we have been), like IM's on Yahoo IM or MSN IM to share ideas, or even the exchange of phone numbers. I know y'all can hum beats to each other on the phone!
Now, the time factor. I say that we should have this project complete by March 15th if everyone works on this accordingly. Then, as this project comes together, we can work on future projects. When you complete your songs, here is what I advise (this is what I am going to do- you may have another way, but I think this is most accessible to all org musicians) 1. Upon finishing songs, let us on the org know what your song titles are and how long they are (2 songs each, no more than 4 minutes a piece). 2. At that time, upload your songs to an MP3.COM site that has your name or group name (totally free of charge for 3 songs hosted). The process of getting the songs through approval usually takes 4-8 business days for approval, but you can upload them almost instantly. (If you need tips, just ask me, Lewis, or Isaiah). 3. Once everyone has their songs uploaded and online, we can compile the tracks onto one MP3.COM radio station and at that time, the New Funk Order project will be complete. Lewis has offered to have the songs on his site also, so the people will get to have free access to this project. Also at this time, we will discuss song orders and where songs should be placed on the CD...artwork ideas can be exchanged then also. Until then, any ideas for CD artwork and placement of credits, etc...will be fine, but let's first stay focused on the music. Everything else will fall in place. I feel really good about this CD, and I believe it will be a first of it's kind on the World Wide Web- a funk compilation consisting of members of a Prince famsite that made this happen from all walks of life and all different parts of the world. Let's do the work, everyone! Your friend, Jason Dodson | |

The song I've been working on has more of a rock edge to it than a funk edge. Think along the lines of I could never take the place of your man (although not even 1% as good!!)
Because I am not a multi instrumentalist (is that an actual word??) I will only have the guitar and bass track done and very poor "I can't sing" vocals. I'm hoping that someone could take the track once I'm done and add a drum track to the back and maybe some synth if it works. I'm not overly confident in my musical abilities at the moment as I've only been playing for about 3 years so if it sucks, I will be completely unoffended if it doesn't make the album.
