Part 1
favorite actress:
For my pick as my favorite actress I would have to say Meryl Streep. I have seen just about every single one of her films and have yet to be disappointed. Meryl manages to pull out top notch performances from serious drama’s like Shopie’s Choice to comedy such as Death Becomes Her to musicals as in Mama Mia. And at times she manages to blend the genres like in Adaptation which I found to be both a serious drama and comedy. There was nothing like seeing her shoot those lines of orchic dust up her nose. It was an awesome performance. Meryl usually has a nack for picking roles in which you can’t help but like her but there have been times when she chose rolls that made her out to be villainous, such as The Devil Wear Prada, The Manchurian Candidate and Dout. Meryl has always as an actress been able to keep my attention when ever she is on the screen. Her acting style is unlike any other actress of our time. She has the ability to dive deep into her characters that when watching what ever movie you began to forget that you are watching a screen legend and makes you feel like your actually peeping in on someone private life. Meryl was born Mary Louise Streep, at 8:05 AM on June 22, 1949 in Summit, NJ to Marry Wolf and Harry Streep. Marry was a commercial artist and a former art editor. Her father Harry was an executive for a pharmaceutical executive. Meryl grew up with two brothers both Dana and Harry. Though she has become on of the greatest actresses ever, acting was not her first love. At age 12 Meryl first started taking serious sing lesson, it was then she that she decide that she wanted to become an opera singer. Music was always apart of her childhood. Her father would play classical piano and her mother would often sing. Mery eventually went on to learn how to play the violin by practicing 6 hours a day for 8 weeks. She did this in preparations for the film Music in the Heart. Meryl received her bachelors degree from Vessar College in 1971 and from there she went on to receive her Masters Degree from Yale. She spent a year abroad studing at Darmonth college and that is were her acting career began. She would spend most of her time there acting in Theater productions at the school. Ironically when Meryl first applied for school she wanted to study Law but on the day of her interview she overslept and took it as a sign that she was destine for bigger and better things. One of the most amazing things about Meryl’s acting abilities is that she can adopt an accent from any region of the world and use it as if it were her mother language. This is most prevalent in her earlier work. She was known as the master of learning diolects from other countries. Meryl is a perfectionist in her craft and meticulous and painstaking in her preparation for her roles. She digs deep into the characters she plays and like any great actor she becomes the character she is portraying. What I find so amazing about her is she can take a character that is so unlikeable like in The Devil Wears Prada and make you understand where that character is coming from and why the character is the way she is and makes you like her. She is also able to turn in a gut renching performance, as in Shopie Choice, that will bring tears to your eyes. And on top of that her ability to take a real life person such as Julia Childs, in Julia & Julia and make her so fresh, funny and likable that at the end of the movie your sad that it’s over. This is why, Mery is by far my favorite actress. She manages to bring to life on screen chacters with such range and emotional substance that it is so very hard to deny that she is a living legend.
to be continued....
