New Year's Eve Blues

Last night I was alone again

In a room full of news

drinking exotic champagnes

--still had the blues

Dont get me wrong there was fun to be had

We made a soul train line

And a Conga chain too

At midnight there was me

and...no you

A flute of champagne, bubbles and all, could not quench my thirst

Not like your arms around my neck, tugging my shirt

The way you used to do

Long before our hearts turned shades of blue

I imagined you standing with me last night

in your favorite slacks and shirt pearly white

remembering the look in your eyes that very first night

When the both of us knew our love was all right

Come bathe me again like you did before

Let the water run down my back and onto the floor

Towel me off, rub lotion on my back

I'll turn toward you and give you some dap

Bring to me a glass of water

I'll drink it up like there is no other

my thirst will quench

and so will yours

The Love we make behind french doors

As my heart aches for the love I am missing

I stare out my window

Its getting late, another night in the dark

Alone again, yes it is true
This my friends is the New Year's Eve Blues

~this poem is dedicated to all the single ladies/fellas out there~

Your welcome.

New Year celebration is a good-for-nothing pagan tradition ...I can't really relate to that,

but I can relate to missing someone dearly - any given time or place.

Yes, I agree on the celebrations stuff -- my friends literally begged me to come -- hadn't seen them for nearly a year.

Missing someone is not a once-a-year ocurrance is it? its a dull, persistent, feeling as so well depicted in one of my favorite musical classics, Billy Holiday's Good Morning Heartache...

Good morning heartache
You old gloomy sight
Good morning heartache
Thought we said goodbye last night
I turned and tossed until it seems you heve gone
But here you are with the dawn
Wish I forget you, but you're here to stay
It seems I met you
When my love went away
Now everyday I stop I'm saying to you
Good morning heartache what's new

Stop haunting me now
Can't shake you nohow
Just leave me alone
I've got those Monday blues
Straight to Sunday blues
Good morning heartache
Here we go again
Good morning heartache
You're the one
Who knows me well
Might as well get use to you hanging around
Good morning heartache
Sit down

Thank you for your response. And thanks for the prayers. I'm certain it will work out. The poem is partially an excercise in writing but does contain some truths within.
