source 3 / Dreams

Dr. King often pointed out that it was Jesus' Sermon on the Mount that inspired the "dignified social action" of the civil rights movement.

"I have a dream" speech reaches its highest point with echoes of the prophet Isaiah: "I have a dream that one day every valley shall b exalted, every hill & mountain shall b made low ... & the glory of the Lord shall b revealed, & all flesh shall c it 2gether."

In words of the prophet Micah, he hoped that one day all persons elected 2 public office will "do justice, love kindness, & walk humbly with God." His hope 4 an end 2 war was rooted in Isaiah's vision that people will "beat their swords in2 plowshares, & their spears in2 pruning tools." Biblical promises of "peace on earth & goodwill 2ward all"

Dr. King said that he stood in a long line of extremists, including the prophet Amos, Jesus, the apostle Paul, the protestant re4mer Martin Luther, Thomas Jefferson & Abraham Lincoln.

(Dr. King's commitment 2 the Bible as his primary source book was nourished in his childhood when Bible stories told around the dinner table held the King children in awe. )

In what was 2 b his last speech, Dr. King drew from the biblical story of Moses: "Like anybody, I would like 2 live a long life ... But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want 2 do God's will. & He's allowed me 2 go up 2 the mountain, & I've looked over, & I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with U, but I want U 2 know tonight that we as a people will get 2 the promised land."

ANDROGYNINE Continues....

ANDROGYNINE,

Here is my research paper on secrets behind the music industry. I chose Occult symbols and references in pop music. Because there is so much to write about i have broken it into 3 sections.

the first being the introduction, the second will include the core of the paper, and the third will be the conclusion.

below i have the the introduction. It is the 3 page minimum you asked for also including the works cited page.. it reads as follows:

The Occult and Popular Music

I have always been a lover of popular music. During my teens I would take on odd jobs, save up the money I would make, take it to the local record stores and spend it all buying the records of my favorite artist. From Prince, Madonna, Fleetwood Mac to The Thompson Twins, Soft Cell, Nirvana, Rick James and others. I had a very wide range in my taste of music styles and genres. I would take home these albums and study them, listen to them and just devour everything there was about them. I would take these album covers, place them on my walls and read everything included in them.

One day I came home from school and found that my walls were clean of my collections and all my albums were in a pile outside in the back with my dad standing over them with a bottle of lighter fluid and matches. Not knowing what was going on my dad turned to me and said, “ I don’t want this devil music in my house.” I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about and without any regards to my hard work, the love for my collection, or without any other explanation he set them all on fire. His only other words on the subject were, “if you bring this stuff back into his house I would be thrown out just like these records”. I took what he said in fear and never bought a record again, not while I was living in his house that is. This never stopped my love for music to grow. In fact it only intensified my need for it.

For some time now there has been speculation that the practice of Occult ritual and symbology has been present in popular music. From The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, Jim Morrison and Robert Johnson, to the current roster of artists who are today dominating the radio waves, such as Jay Z., Lady Gaga, Kayne West, Beyonce, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguliara just to name a few have all been accused of placing occult reference in there music. If they are actually practicing occultism maybe it is true, and then again maybe it is not. One thing for sure is that there is definitely a more blatant display of occult references in popular music today by recording artists compared to the recording artists of the 1960’s, 1970’s and even the 1980’s.

There has been long debates on rather these artists have sold their souls to the “devil” for riches and fame. But, after doing some peeking into the history of the occult in the music industry, it is easy to see that the earlier years of this phenomenon, it was the apparent that many of these artists were in search of some higher spiritual awakening. They were rebelling against the fundamental religious practices, which at that time is Christianity. These artists were “Rock Stars” and they had become “gods” within their own rights and they were beyond the restraints and confinements of what the Christian religion was teaching. They searched out for a spiritual understanding that was a higher state of consciousness than what they were experiencing at that time. The main difference between the artists then and a majority of the artists now is that they went out and searched for something that was an alternative to what religion was teaching them. The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix, and other artists of that era, when they felt they had a grasp on something they explored it, studied it, practiced it and eventually became one with it. They knew what they were doing and they shared that information through their music.

Now, I am not saying that they all had the best intentions but they were practicing something that they believed in. For instance, when Jimmy Page from Led Zepplin included eastern mysticism and Luciferian ideas into their music it was because he was fascinated with Aleister Crowley and his teachings. Aleister Crowley was a major influience on many Rock and Roll artists during the 1960’s and 1970’s. Even to this day he still has followers who study his teachings and practice what they learn from him (

Sultin 210). Page studied these ideas, began practicing what he had learned and then began to incorporate what he had discovered into the music and artwork of Led Zepplin. (Gomes)

In Garry Gomes article The Occult and music, he writes “Page’s involvement with the Crowley Legacy extended to the purchase of one of Crowely’s homes and the symbols that adorned Led Zepplin IV.” This is further evidence that some of the artist of that time were so involved in what they were learning and practicing that they went to the extremes to more apart of and more involved in the teachings the were becoming exposed to. They were taking these ideas, these teachings and they were becoming one with them. They were submerging themselves into that environment.

These artists were practicing what they were being taught. They were living what they had learned. They were passing that information on through their music. They were doing this in a way that was subtle, a kind of innuendo, and not forcing it down the throats of their listeners. They were simply leaving little hints and clues as to what they were into.

Also ANDROGYNINE here is the outline for my favorite photographer. I chose David LaChapelle because his work confronts both political and social awareness using the most exaggerated aspects of celebrities personalities and lifestyles.... It reads as follows:

Outline for Photography

Introduction

    1. David La Chapelle
    2. His work is know for his surreal, unique, humorous, outrageous political and social awareness and the exaggerated aspects of celebrities personalities and lifestyles.
    3. Is the work of David La Chapelle actually the artwork of a true genius and not that of someone who has capitalized on the overtly sexual images in his work?

Influences

    1. Glamour, beauty, nature, Avedon, Baron Von Gloeden, and Guy Bourdin.
    2. His work in videos, stage design, film direction, taking chances, and doing new things has complemented his work in photography.

Work

    1. The main themes and concepts in his work include color, humor, sexuality and spontaneity.
    2. David La Chapelle at first didn’t want to do magazine work, but with him getting his first job in INTERVIEW magazines it changes his whole concept in how he wanted his work to get out.
    3. Michael Jackson / Photography

Conclusion

    1. David La Chapelle is consider one of the finest photographers in this generation. He has won several awards for his work and though he has retired from doing magazines and ad campaigns he is still continuing to do some of the most amazing work of his career.
    2. It is through his overt use of sexuality and the mixture of vibrant color and shocking themes that has made him a genius at his craft.

David LaChapelle by DreamFirstBorn, Jew

David LaChapelle is one of the most influential photographers of our time. His style has been made famous because of the surreal, unique, humorous themes to his images. David uses his work to confront both political and social awareness by incorporating the most exaggerated aspects of celebrities personalities and lifestyles. He has captured images that are extremely beautiful, yet at the same time, they can be viewed as offensive and grotesque. He has photographed some of the most famous faces of this generation. From the likes of Madonna, Marliyn Manson, Pamela Anderson, Amanda Lapore Lance Armstrong, Angelia Jolie, and Lady Gaga as well as many other famous iconic figures. Even though he has become notorious for capturing images of these famous people, this is not how he originally wanted to succeed.

He first started off taking black and white images, and then showed them off in exhibits at art galleries in New York City. He inaugurated the 303 Gallery, which is on west side of Manhattan, in 1984. He would have exhibits every few months and sell his pictures for around $400 dollars. Though he was sharpening his skills as a photographer this wasn’t enough to live off of. In his interview with Gianni Mercurio, he said it was during this time period he was mostly shooting and printing in black and white. Later he says that though he didn’t realize it, it was mostly because he was under a lot of pressure due to his lover dying of AIDS. He thought that he himself had contracted the virus, and because of this, unconsciously he pretty much viewed things in black and white. Everything he was doing was in black and white. He felt as if he was running out of time and had no access to color. He continued this process for 6 years, spending much of his time in dark rooms. It was when he found out that he was HIV negative that he began to explore color within his work. His images began bursting with it.

In this new beginning of his life Avedon, Baron Von Gloeden and Guy Bourdin influenced David’s work and his goal was to provide a form of escapism from, not only what the world was going through, but also what he was dealing with in his personal life. During this time period it was another iconic pop culture artist that gave him the most monumental moment in his career. He met Andy Worhal at a Psychedelic Furs concert at Studio 54 in 1984. While in conversation, Andy invited David to come to his magazine “INTERVIEW” offices and show him his work. Impressed by his work David was hired and thus began David’s move into the business of magazine and commercial advertising. Also in his conversation with Gianni Mercurio for American Suburb X, David says, that while at “INTERVIEW” “he got the idea in his head that magazines were like galleries.” People could view his images within the pages of various magazines, rip them out and place them on their walls; their refrigerators or what have you, making that someone’s personal and private museum. He started working for everyone he could. He would capture as many images from as many people as he could, developing a work around the clock atmosphere. He worked non-stop. He also work with as many influential magazines as he could, including Rolling Stone, Vogue, Vanity Fair and GQ just to name a few. He would shoot things that he had become attracted to and what was interesting to him. He was drawn to color, humor, sexuality, and spontaneity. Though, while not knowing, he was creating his own style.

David didn’t see the difference between being a photographer or an artist. To him they both were the same. He didn’t lock himself into those kinds of boundaries. What David liked most about working with magazines was that he could do anything he wanted to do with a blank page. He would fill those pages with things he was obsessed with, things he was thinking about and if people felt some sort of akin to them, then to him he had achieved success.

Whether David was truly a genius or if he was just capitalizing on using overtly sexual and disturbing images in his work to gain attention, some did questioned. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn’t, it is clear to see that it was through his raw talent, hard work, dedication to his vision, attraction to glamour and beauty, that he had a gift. There was no other who could imagine the concepts he created. It was this and also being able to persuade some of the most influential people in pop culture to agree with and to be a part of his vision. This is what makes him a genius.

Through his career as a photographer David gain the respect of many different music artists for his visionary style and concepts. This was an opportunity lead to several collaborations with different music artist. David directed many music video, working with top artist including Britney Spears, Madonna, Molby, Kelis, The Space Monkeys, Bork, Gwen Stafani, No Dout and Amy Winehouse, just to name a few. His videos are vibrant, full of color and displayed the artist in their best light. He has the ablity to transfer someone with a “plain jane” look to them and turn them into incredible, beautiful, sexual dynamites.

In recent years David, confronted with the idea that his work no longer are palatable for fashion magazines, quit doing work for from both magazines and advertising campaign, with the exception of an occasional cover or ad, on his own terms. He has removed the rules from his life and has spent the majority of his time, returning to where he started off, working in his own private sanctuary, and creating more fine art. He is currently using his lens to explore celebrity and fashion and how they are used to blur the lines of consumerism and cultural hierarchies.

In conclusion, from the time he took that very first picture of his mother, while on vacation with his family in Puerto Rico, David knew he wanted to be a photographer. Not just any old photographer but an Iconic artist who used photography as one of his mediums. It was through hard work, being at the right place at the right time, dedication to his craft, and loving what he does, and most of all the will to make it and not give up, we have today one of the most admirable photographic artist of our generation.

Thank you ANDROGYNINE & dreamfirstborn , that was a very loving gesture...

In these tribulent times we need all the healing we can get.
