The New Funk Order- who wants to help me start it?

I know that Cloud 9 (Lewis Partridge) is down with this idea. I am wanting to form a new music order among musicians who share a message of revolution, love, and peace, change, and correction. I was hoping that we could all get together and jam on a huge CD that would be similar to a P-Funk All Star type thang, where we had like 50 mo-fo's on one track or something like that. I mean a jam album with hard dance and funk tracks- not necessarily with a defined message, just some "get off your ass and jam" type thangs. The more that people learn to dance to the right music in these times, the better they are- you know what I'm saying?

Let's Do The Work, Y'all. Where and when should we meet in a central location on some occasions for this? Let's brainstorm ideas.

I'm all 4 this idea biggrin

It could work if enough of us all pulled together. Logistics need not be a problem with the ability to transfer files between each other.
What I mean is this... Some people may find it hard to meet up with others due to travel distance, work, time etc. So why doen't one of us play some drums on a track, pass it on 2 a bass player, who passes it on 2 a guitarist, etc and just see what happens. Although it won't have the energy of a live jam, it'd be a starting point and some interesting shit could come out of it!

I use Cakewalk personally, but I'd look into using another program if it'd help.

Great idea!!

New Funk Order!! biggrin

Jimmy, I have an issue with this idea as well. I am on half analog equipment, and I don't have a computer based mixing program. So, the best I could do is play along with a CD recording and then run it through my tascam, then re-record onto a new CD track. Money does not permit me to buy more equipment. But, I could at least do what I mentioned...more work for me, but it would be well worth it.

I think a good solution would be:
Each person adds their part on a separate track, playing along with the track thus far... then forward the new track mixed on the left, original track on the right, so it's easy to synch up the recording?

Sounds good - I'd be up for the down stroke.

Altho, I spose my message might be far from y'alls... but that wouldn't come through in guitar playing, would it.

Hello,

I like this thing and I hope to join this project.

I can use both analog or digital equipment.

I just say that someone should plan the project, counting who's gonna join and how to work on a song.

It's a great idea.

I was talking to manki about collaborating. I was trying to figure out a way to do it since he's in Sweden and I'm in the US.

There is a website called www.planetnexus.com, where people collaborate. They have space to upload and download files by ftp. I haven't participated, but I joined. Anyway, sounds like a possibility.

I think wave files are too big to upload onto my webspace. So maybe I can just mail them on cd to him. (Or anyone else who would like to help me out with drums on my stuff. Anyone interested?)

Meeting everyone would be super cool though. Hey Jason, I was just in Illinois in October!

I have a suggestion. Ive been thinking of a way for us all to collaborate over such vast distances but as we all use different software & some of us dont use software at all, I think its gonna be very difficult, maybe even impossible to get this idea off the ground.

My suggestion is as follows. A compilation CD called 'The New Funk Order' consisting of one track from each artist or band. Obviously as many real collaborations as possible would be great but for those who have difficulty doing this, allow them to submit one of their songs.

Ive been working on a page design for this guys so we can facilitate the uploading & downloading that we would need to do. I have some server space free. smile

God bless

This is a really exciting idea! I really would like to contribute. Maybe if I try to get a band together with the same ideas of the messages that you mentioned, I could knock something up that way.

Very inspiring, love to you xx

Thats what I was thinking. A collaboration album dont necessarily mean us all playing together on a track & it would be nice to make it easier for those who dont have the equipment to participate to have the option of just sending us a tune they've recorded for inclusion in the project smile

But colaborations sound wicked, my site & I are in wink

Now, we need to org note or e-mail each other with real names and addresses for shipping so that we can start on this. Also, we should know whether you have digital or analog equipment, and if you have access to upload your finished mp3 to the computer. Me and Isaiah both have analog epuip, so it would be easy for us to collaborate on a track- he could send me a CD with his stuff, then I could re-record onto CDR with my added track. It would pick up some noise in the process, but it would be big fun. If we could all record at least one analog type track (regardless of the sound quality) I believe it would be good for us. And for the digi peeps, they can record one also, (just one digi and one analog song for the collaboration- the rest can be individual songs from each person).

If you know anyone else who might be interested from the org, let them know and then let me know.

Ok im guessing, peeps with digital could devote a track, people with analog can insert samples in the jam track, is that right? Am I getting it right?

Or is it like this...one sample of something in the "jam" song and one individual song? Is this right?

Probably wouldn't hurt to figure out instrumentation/contributions at this point - y'all all wanna list what you can play/contribute?

I'm guessing that most of us all write/play multi instruments (this IS prince.org, after all...). But hey it wouldn't hurt to have the list to be sure.

guitar
vocals
bass
drum programming
harmonica
keys
violin

add to that -
songwriting
production
engineering

ALL on amateur level, duuh.

Hey - it would be GREAT to put the individual tracks up online, as a downloadable zip file or whatever, so we could just dl the individual tracks, drop them into whatever we use (Acid, Cakewalk etc), throw in our track, and then email/post our individual contributions?

So, I spose in the end, you'd end up with a MAXI single, with 12 different mixes. HAH!

Okay. Check it out. I put together some loops to start with. Everybody's interested, but nobody's taking the first step. They're all WAV files.

Check out the loops, and tell me if they'll do.

They're at 94 or 95 bpms - I forget which now.

I went with total classic funk - the Linn Drum samples. Couldn't help it.
