Ooooh sorry. It was getting close to being the last thread and I didn't want it to fall out of the forum completely. I took it down instead of "bump it" because I'm still working on it. I'll post it again soon.

In The Mean Time, In The Between Time, In The Serene Time ~

dove

I close my eyes and the days' events rush in,
categorized and compartmentalized, pushed to recesses of my consciousness.
My breath steady and deep as each transgression is stored like an unclaimed body in the morgue, still, forgotten.
He said, she said, they said, we said.

In the mean time.

Now, it is just me. I am suspended in air and the warmth of my breath surrounds me like a down comforter in the midst of December.
I am free or at least I belive I am.

Free to laugh, free to smile, free to extend my hand, free to walk a mile.
The path I take is one of redemption and love, I'm certain it's guided by the One above.
See the heavenly glow that surrounds my soul.
Clean and fresh as the scent of Lilac fills my breast.

In the mean time.

I sleep, peacefull and reserved.
Awaiting nectar sweet and fulfilling.

In the mean time.

I am congnizant of a pernicious force which circles the room.
It is a grotesque five-headed beast with teeth jagged like broken glass and breath so rancid from feasting on its own carcass.
It makes a sound heard only by itself.
It is the sound of inner torture and remorse.

In the mean time.

Yet, I sleep with a smile upon my lips.
For I know this beast cannot harm me as its' purpose is harm to itself.
I turn and expose my delicate side, inviting the beast to take a ride.

In the mean time.

One of the beast's heads tries to engage me and I feel its glare, although I struggle to keep my eyes closed.
Another attempts to bound my hands.
The third head, spinning like a pinwheel, spews obscenities; an original lie is woven throughout its teeth; remnants of floss intermixed with flesh and blood.
The fourth seeks to enter my conscious mind while the fifth explores the under-regions of my soul.
I lie motionless and paralyzed; my lips pursed awaiting the here and after.

In the mean time.

It is now the darkest hour of night.
The beast is enraged for it cannot ravage me.
I will not look at it.
It cannot penetrate my mind, my body, my soul.
The beast knows nothing about the everlasting or the spirit.
And, I am radiant.

It leaves my side and begins to attack all living things, in my room.
I watch as it paces corner to corner flailing is tentacles.
Each head moving in antipodean directions; searching but not finding.
It screetches, teeth gnash.
Aurora begins.

In the between time.

The dawn is approaching.
I wait.

In the between time.

I sense the dawning of the sun.
The room still has no light and the beast returns for another fight.
I can no longer contain myself.
It has been hours, seems like days, seem like years.
As the beast approaches it tries once more to topple me.
We lie face to face.

At that moment, the first light of day enters the room.
I open my eyes slowly revealing all that is contained within.
Each of the beast's alternate heads moves center, in formation for anticipated gratification.
Its eyes seethe and its mouths drip with unwashed blood.

In the between time.

The muted light allows me to see the true voracity of the beast as it draws nearer.
I panic, my breath stinted; I am wet with anxious perspiration, yet I stare intensly into its nothingness.

In the between time.

The sun rises.
A spectrum of sunlight with hues of red, blue and white, envelops me.
I am warmed and for a second I forget I am pursued.
I close my eyes and return to the place of peaceful dreams.
My lips returned to their natural position.

In the between time.

A drop of blood falls on my breast.
I am shocked into the present.
I gasp for air and instinctively exhale.
A sea of Lilac fills the room.

The beast begins to contort.
Its' heads twisting and spinning until they are one.
Its' carcass begins to shrink and melts to the floor.
All that's left is a puddle of Ink next to the door.

In the serene time.

I am here.

A pendant suspended by a ray of sunlight.
My vision is unobstructed.
As I savor what was, what is and what will be.
I taste the aroma of tranquility, the salve of my soul.

Honey glazes my lips.
And I am aroused by a gentle breeze.

In the serene time.

I cover myself with linen and silk.
And sip from the cup of life.
I am refreshed and I rise.
I will leave this place of battle and strife.

In the serene time.

I take the locket from around my neck.
And place the beast's Ink within.
So as not to forget.
I take one step closer to the door.
But first grasp a sprig of Lilac from the floor.

I place the Lilac within the locket.
And return the jewel to its rightful place.
I open the door, step into space.
And taste honey.
Smile on my face.

In the serene time.

In the serene time.

The bridge is narrow, some might say.
A path less traveled, especially today.

I sit for a moment to quench a thirst.
And drape my feet in the water below.
Watch as the ripples begin to grow.

It occurs to me to write.
Ink from the locket, pen from my purse.
Words carefully chosen verse after verse.
A whisper soft and then a breeze.

In the serene time.
