PEOM - SOUP? SOUP! Stressed from the daily grind of modern life,
I asked her for some wisdom or advice, She looked at me smiling... just smiling! “Want some soup?” she asked, “It’s really very nice.” Soup? Soup! My life falling to pieces before my eyes! Soup? To hell with soup! I need a real solution! But of course, she never thinks of things like that, Nor ponders the complexities of modern mind pollution, So years go by, and nothing do I ask of her, I simply take it all in stride, Never bothering to show my weaknesses, For sake of nothing more than foolish pride, But this spring was like no other spring, My heart was broken and torn asunder, Every touch made me feel as if I’d shatter just like glass, Every laugh I heard sounded like the mocking rumble of thunder, I went back to her an empty frame…a broken man, She looked at me quizzically, and asked if I was okay, I looked up at her, smiling through glassy eyes And said, “Mom, I sure could use some soup today.” | |
