Hi Everyone!!!
wow its been a while since i have had a chance to write here. Since i last left ya i was in Big Springs, TX. Which is where i met this guy named Victor. He was traveling from Colorado to Odessa, to stay with his parents and go to school. I liked hanging out with Victor. He was 18 years old and very bored with the area but his parents talked him into coming to Texas to work in there business, which had something to do with granite rocks. I spent most of the day with Victor and as we walked we talked about different things, from God, to following your dreams to going to school. I told him that he should go to school and get his bachlor degree, because after 4 years he would be only 22 years and still have that paper to his name. Something that no one could ever take from him. I told him it was important to have some short of college education because without it it was going to be extreamly hard to find something that would allow him to live a better life than most of the people in Odessa and Big Springs. Victor is a DJ in Colorado and is heavly into Trance and Techno music. He like the idea of going to school, but didn't want to be dependent on his parents. I completely understood where he was coming from. it was cool having someone to walk with on my birthday. soon his parents met up with him and off he went. we exchanged phone numbers and we still text each other every night. From there i walked through Midland,TX to Odessa then onto Monahans, Tx then through to Pecos, TX. Which is were i was held up for a couple of days due to a snow storm that came through leaving about 4 inches of snow. Along the way was aboslutely nothing. I had to walk about 40 miles to the next town from odessa which was Monahans. It was probably one of the hardest trecks i had to make. Leaving odessa at about 7:30 in the morning making it to Monahans at about 6pm. It would have taken me about another 1 1/2 longer but a guy pulled over and asked me if i wanted a ride. It was getting dark and the guy looked like Brad Pitt in 12 Monkeys. I was exausted and my legs were killing me. He drove me about 9 miles into Monahans. At first i wasn't sure if i wanted to get into the truck with him because for one he had a dog in the car that was barking like crazy when i got to the door and then when i opened the door i noticed that he had a blow torch on. I thought to myself, Hmmmmm. I don't know about this, but then i got a good look at him and his dog and figured he can't be any crazier than i am, and i didn't like walking at night. So i hopped in. His name was Jon Roper, he was TN and now lived in the area doing construction. He was pretty cool, but at first i thought wow this dude is crazy. His dog Mader had the most compasionate eyes i ever seen on a dog. So i didn't worry much after that. Once we got back on the road Jon was a lead foot on the gas pedal. we were doing about 90 miles an hour and he was weaving through traffic like a pro. I asked him if he ever was a race car driver and he looked at me and grinned. Nope he said he was running late for a meeting. In the short amount of time i was with him he told me that he had been on his own since he was 13, getting an emansipation from his parents at that age and was living on his own since then. He told me that he had spent some time in jail because he beat the shit out of an old man who was molesting his friend. She later told the cops that it wasn't true because he had threatened her so Jon went to jail for attempted murder. Later another girl came out and said that the guy had done the same thing to her and because she came forward Jon was released after 3 years. His story was very interesting. He told me he made alot of money doing his job. He made custom homes. I asked him whats the most amount of money he made at one time and he told me 15,000 dollars in one week. but went to Las Vegas and lost 12,000 of it. Jon was pretty cool considering i thought at any second he was going to just flip out, but i figured it was just his personallity. He also told me that he moved to Texas after coming there with just his tools and his dog, Mader. He was very intense but very friendly, and very open. He dropped me off at the local gas station in town and then asked me if i needed any money. I told him that i didn't take money from people but if he wanted to donate to my journey he could go online and make a donation. He wouldn't have it and gave me 20 dollars and told me that he admired what i was doing. Now while i was staying in a motel back in Odessa, i spent that last of my weekly monies for the room. Believe me after walking so far i didn't want to camp out i just wanted to soak myself in a tub somewhere. Its good on the legs. Considering i had spent most of my weekly money so quick this week i had to think ahead. so i found the Monahans police department's phone number and i called them up and told them that i was walking through from New York to California and that i was coming through Monahans that night sometime and i couldn't find a campsite in the area and asked them if there was any subjestion for me. I talked to a girl name Kim. She took down my phone number and told me that she would see what she could find. I told her i was truely greatful for anything she could find and i started walking. About 10 miles into my walk she called me up and told me that as soon as i got to Monahans to come to the police station because she already had a motel room waiting for me. All the paper work was done all i had to do was come there and show my i.d. That was the best news i herd all day. is here

Now all i had todo was walk 30 more miles. It was insane!!!!! it was cold that day. The tempature was about 35 degrees at its highest. I was pretty bundled up so i wasn't to uncomfortable. Just my hands were cold and my ear got a little frost bite. nothing serious though. they just hurt for a couple of days. When i got to Monahans i found the police department. It was about 6:30 - 7. I walked in a there she was Kim. She had all the paper work completed and was very nice and friendly to me. She introduced me to Jessica and Jessica asked me for my I.D. after they ran it and everything was clear she handed me a bag of food and said that my room was at the motel around the corner. I was ever so thankful. Kim and Jessica were the pretties lady officers i had seen in a while. They didn't have the "look" as most of the local girls.
So from there i went to the motel and ran a nice hot bath and crawled in and soaked my legs for the next hour. it was such a relief. Afterwards i just laid in bed and caught up on my favorite show "Greys Anatomy" and search my map for my next stop. Pecos, TX! 45 miles away. It wasn't long before i went to sleep. Now the next morning i got up early around 5:30 and off i went. Now considering i still had no money i had to figure out what i was going to do for the next several days. I had already secured my Couch Surfing Host in El Paso but it was going to take some time getting there. So what i did from there is i called up the Pecos police department and again told them i was walking through and that i only had limited amount of funds and could find a campsite in the area. They also took my number and told me that they would call me back in a few hours. I started walking. I had to make it by sundown because again i don't like walking at night. I was walking my ass off, for one thing there was a snow storm heading in my direction and if i didn't make it i would be stranded out in the snow. I was on a mission..... to be continued... until then here are some photos i have up loaded. -DreamFirstBorn, Jew while on a journey of a life time is here

This is Tony. I met him while i was staying at The Salvation Army over night in Big Springs, TX. He has pins in his knee caps, shattered the heels on each of his feet, he has a metal plate in his head and is still hitch hiking from maryland to south texas. We stayed up late that night talking and smoking cigarettes. He told me not to tell anyone what i was carring in this part of Texas because all people wanted to do was take what i had. Someone stole his back pack that had his tent, sleeping bag, cloths and shoes, i felt bad for him but he told me not to worry. it was all apart of the experience. he had some great stories to tell. This is the springs in which Big Springs was named after. The confederates would come to this spot during the civil war and stock up on thier drinking water. I tasted the water in Big Springs and it was horrible. it tasted salty and smelt like sulpher. First night of Snow! Cotton Fields i passed after Abiliene and Sweetwater Tx. along interstate 20 stranded in the snow... what a beautiful sky. is here

I made it through TEXAS!!!!
i thought i would never get out of the state but i have now made it to New Mexico. I walked out of El Paso heading north to Las Cruses, NM. after about 20 miles it started getting painful and i came to this rest area. I went looking for a place to camp but having left El Paso with NO MONEY my options were very limited. When i left El Paso i had 40 cents to my name and i had 3 days before i recieved my next deposit. i guess i would get to las cruses and maybe find a shelter or something and hang out there until my deposit came. Las Cruses is about 45 miles away from El Paso and i figured i could make it in 2 days and all i would have to do is camp out over night somewhere along the way. Well by the time i reached 20 miles my legs were killing me. I was in El Paso for about 4 days and didn't walk much. My mistake. when i go that many days without walking its like i have to re break them in. So when i left El Paso i had to break them in again. I reached this town called Anthony which was right on the boarder of Texas and New Mexico. i found a rest stop and went to give my legs a break. While there i found out they had a computer so i went online and set up my next couch surfing experience. Las Cruses was 28 miles away i was told. I called up the Sheriff's department and told them that i couldn't find a camp ground anywhere near me and they told me that it was ok for me to camp there at the rest area. Which would have been cool, but i still had 2 hours of day light left and i felt i could at least get about 8 miles beside it was way up in the middle of Nowhere, up above the city. I decided to give it a try maybe i would catch a ride. funny thing is as i walking towards New Mexico, i was talking to God saying Lord my legs are killing me you gotta help me, and he said to me just cross the state line. Just cross the state line. To me it seemed like that damn line was no were near me. eventually i crossed it. Right there at Anthony. So after leaving the rest area, legs killing me i still had the determination to go for it. lets see how this is goning to play out i thought. So i am walking and i walked about 4 more miles when this cadillac pulls over in front of me about 100 feet ahead. I catch up, not running but more like a cripple strut. i get to the car and the rolls down the window and says Hey its gonna be getting dark soon u want a ride. I said Sure. I throw my back pack in the truck and hop in the car. we drive off. The Guy was on the phone setting up reservations and he asked me. Should i set up a room for you. I told him i was heading to Las Cruses and he was going to Albuquerque, he said ok and continued talking on the phone setting up his thing. And thats when it happened. he reached into this compartment that was between his seat and mines and pulls out .... he is still talking on the phone as he is doing this.. and i am thinking what is he doing. Car swivering but not dangerously. he pulls out this billfold and reaches in and pulls out a $100 bill and gives it to me. i was like whoa!! i said to him hey man this is way to much this is out of control. i can't take this . he still talking on the phone glances over at me and nodds his head as if saying no worries. still talking on the phone he continues setting up his reservations... so i take the money and fold it up and put it in my shirt pocket. how am i going to give this back to him without offending him i am thinking. He gets off the phone and introduces himself to me. his name was Gill and i introduce myself to him. I told him he was being way to kind and the amount of money was way to much and that i couldn't take it. and he says to me that he knows what its like to be out on the road. He is probably in his early 50's or late 40's. He goes on to tell me that he was recently in Mexico and had gotten kidnapped and it was one of the most scariest situations he had ever been in and when he excaped he said his life changed. He said it was the least he would do for me. as he was telling me this story we get to Las Cruses and he gets off the freeway and asked me where i wanted to stay. Now that i have a $100 i was so greatful i told him any cheap motel. We find this place call the Plaza Suites and pull in. He gets out of the car and walks with me to the front desk and before i could say anything he says to the guys i would like a room for 2 nights. the guy asked him for 2 people and he says no just one. the motel guy says ok and tells him what it would cost. $97.50, so i reach for the money that Gil had given me and he says no. I got this for you. Paid the guy cash and before i could protest he gives me his number and said if i needed anything to give him a call and he would take care of it. Then he was Gone. Just like that. I hadn't even filled out the paperwork yet for the motel. The Room was the best room i have stayed in since i have been on this trip. it was hooked up. God is Alive. to be continued.... -DreamFirstBorn, Jew while on a journey of a life time. p.s. i will be in Arizona soon. i can't believe its coming to the final strech. is here

dreamfirstborn said: I made it through TEXAS!!!!
i thought i would never get out of the state but i have now made it to New Mexico. Yes He is!
