songsmiths - what's your writing atmostphere? you people that have a couple songs written - or maybe 150 or 500 - how do you do it?
do you need some candles lit and your dog lying with you on the couch? do you write in the daytime, or late at night? do you need drugs or alcohol? sometimes I think I could come up with a million songs if I could just write them where I work - at a big noisy factory. nobody could hear me singing then

When i worked in a factory or at a warehouse..I would hum the melody and think of the lyrics in my head..surprisingly the noise and monotony of the machines could become a beat or something to stimulate the brain..but now i can think of song anywhere, anytime...my favorite place to write is Fort Greene park in downtown brooklyn..for some reason, My best come out when im there

I usually smoke some b.c. bud, then get paranoid for 5 minutes, then i'm off to my fender.

i've written lyrics before.
but i've actually never gotten to sing them. like a band that i work with it, be it my friends or at school. they always decide not add vocals to their songs. but i like for the band that i work with to give a instrumental. then i'll try to make a little story out of it. and like adding spices, i secretly add elements of my life in these lyrics.. so i need silence and other people's music...

Lyrics come when they come. When I've had office jobs, I've found inspiration can come from anywhere. When you work with your hands, it's hard to take a moment and capture an idea on paper, so sometimes I'll save emails or IM's with friends and create lyrics from them, with enough twists to protect the guilty.
Music is always there, even when there's not an instrument, I always hear it.

Same here. It's easier to wax poetic when just being one's self... like in a letter... it comes across as real and true... as you. I just can't stare at a blank piece of paper and make it happen... not unless I already have a bunch of thoughts floating around... an idea I've been wanting to talk about. Going back to past emails and IM discussions is a great way to pull out some creative ideas. I often find that the rhythm is already there. Now for some music... or vice versa... so cool to find old words that match new music... then you know that's something special... something meant-to-be. For me, I write anywhere... it's a lot like prayer. I'm inspired by all things. +++ keep the vibe alive ∞ ʀ⁅VERB⁆я ∞
