WDG Solid Experiment - Birds & Bears [Comedy/Rock] (my band's album) http://www.facebook.com/p...603?ref=ts Save The Earth Otto The Robot The Birds & The Bears Valleyfair Janitor Puppetman Heroes (Feat. BOT) The Diary (a 12 minute epic about a boy who's lost his diary) Save The Sea My band's new album we finished about a week ago. It's really funny at least to me and I think a lot of you guys will like it (and a lot of you will not get it and be like wtf). I dunno why I'm posting it here. I guess I'm just hoping a few of you enjoy it. Give it a chance, it has gotten great reviews so far. Read along to the lyrics because sometimes it is hard to understand the vocals and you might miss a funny line. Let me know what you guys think. I understand it won't be everyone's cup of tea. It is first and foremost a comedy album, even if we tried to make the music good as well. I understand if most of you "don't get it." I listen to a lot of different music besides Prince and I'm sorry to say that his influence is not nearly as prevalent as it should be. Oh well. :p [Edited 7/8/09 6:31am]

Hi ~
Can you make a streaming version available? (PS: I like the cover - esp. the little robot!) [Edited 7/11/09 21:58pm]

Yeah, I just replied to comeandgetwild (username) that 3 online music distributors who provide streaming are reverb nation, songplanet and soundclick. Also a not-just-music place called esnips.com. I also wonder if one can provide a stream through their facebook page? btw, I just looked at ":views" for your thread, it said zero - obviously false. What's up w/ that, it should say at least 2 (yourself, myself) and now 3 after I reply. The above 3 I mentioned I think also have music forums and might be a place to get feedback. The rule of thumb I think is to review others in order tto expect a review, and then it'd still depend on how active any particular forum is. Anyway, I applaud your efforts and will check out when you have a stream option. [Edited 7/13/09 17:33pm] [Edited 7/13/09 17:34pm]

Ok....u might not like what I have to say
listened to good amt of The Birds and The Bears. I most like the singing which began at about 55 seconds. The cursing words I hate! They really jarred and weren't funny at all. Otto The Robot - kudos re: the (hate the word experimental)... snippets and motiffs woven together, not the predictable AABA. I think the more youbecome your musical persona, the better (some of the spoken things on Birds esp. lapse into sounding like an amateur trying to make a record, and ditto Otto's voice). Musically the intro which repeats, is beautiful, great chords/progression and the harp playing! The guitar playing sounds most accomplished. Drums (and piano somewhat) distracting I think due to the mix - it's too real sounding or something imo. Drums are being hit too loud. Singing has both v. good potential and is quite good as is. Btw, I'm one who loves analogue and doesn't mind crackles on records, so it's not a snob thing in commenting on the sound or mix.

Yeah the drums on Otto are too loud and the rapping on The Birds and The Bears is a little bit silly and a lot of people might not like it.
Appreciate your comments on the mixing. It's a little too rough right now. On the next album we are going to focus on getting the production to a much higher, more listenable standard. The worst song production-wise is Valleyfair Janitor (but that is also one of the best songwriting wise). I think you'll like the other songs much more, to be honest. Let me know what you think of the other ones (unless you don't want to listen to anymore, which is understandable). Thanks for everything you've said so far. I appreciate any feedback at all, thank you very much.

You are gracious.
Like that title (Valleyfair Janitor)! I will listen to it and pos. etc; then comment back. -Donna

Dude!
Here you go - (intro VF Janitor is it!) Tasty writing Levels too hot and etc; but work on this if you yourselves are going to engineer / mixdo "WDG II". You ever practice in a loop? I'm talking (individually) just vox or instrument, then vox and your instrument together... also as a 3 piece band, a duo (like bass and drums for certain sections)...and mixing. Practice mixing!! An artist imo can get a lot done by practicing in a loop (repeatedly, in time as if a metronome was going, little dead time as possible), then listen to it. And if it's not how you want it, figure out what's wrong, how to fix it, then practice that solution, and listen again. I have never regretted this kind of discipline. Maybe doesn't apply to mixing tho if you're digital and levels are preset or have some kind of memory so there's little manual involvement? Am ignorant of that sphere. It's cool to hear the raw energy, and I don't know what you know about honing this. Just suggesting in case. You guys are from Eden Prarie I see. Honestly, it's the writing which I personally encourage and am most excited about. Something about having that gift...prob. saying it wrong, but a little bit of chops and/or talent seems to go a lot longer way when the writing is there (not alluding to your chops but my own). I thank you for this little interlude, it takes me back to when I met a v. creative individual from Breck school (now defunct). He turned me onto Bowie and Iggy Pop when I was little...the German "Low" phase of Bowie and the white soul w/ Luther Vandross. But it was the writing that got me...good newness then and not gone though that time is.

Thanks for your comments. Yes we have practiced in that fashion, or in other different fashions many times. These are two guys that I've been making music with for quite some time so there is a pretty big bond there (we all know each other pretty well musically.
I've been working on my vocals for a long time too (listened to my vocals, improved what I didn't like, learned certain vocal techniques, learned new warm-ups etc.) I agree with you about the "raw energy" (that is the part of the album that makes it so good, imo). I think with much better recording, it could be appreciated to a much greater degree.
