Ableton Live is great software. From what I've heard, it's very user friendly when it comes to making beats, midi tracks, etc. REASON is a great for making beats(electronica, hip hop, funk), but standing alone, it has no audio recording capablities.

oh, also, if you're a mac user, garageband is pretty simple.

Garageband is fine. Reason is amazing. So is Live. I personally use Live locked with Reason 4.0. Technically I don't even need to use Reason, cause live is pretty extensive and can use other softsynths, but I know how to use Reason and that's what I'm using for the moment. I feel like I'm completely set up.

One thing I should add, is that if you learn Reason, it will basically teach you about the history of electronic music hardware by example. You'll be learning about CV, chaining effects, different kinds of sequencing, appregiators, etc... It's really an amazing and relatively cheap piece of software.

Info about what software Reason locks to via it's Rewire application can be found here: http://www.propellerheads...cle=rewire
