I don't wanna track down a bunch of vintage synths and drum machines....

What modern shit does the job?

I have as a personal project to make to make a Minneapolis Sound themed Reason Refill using a refill packer.

For example I'm making an LM-1 with Redrum and LM-1 Samples. I'm making Oberheim Obxa, Moog, Prophet 5 and Yamaha DX7 sounding patches with the THOR instrument. I've got Yamaha piano samples that I've put into a NNXT sampler. ETC.. I'm not anywhere finished, but I'm using the Prince and the Revolution Live video as my sound model.

The Prince sound, as far as I'm concerned, is an LM-1 Drum Machine and the Oberheim OBXA synth. The LM-1 samples are everywhere. The Oberheim is harder there are almost no emulations. There's a piece of Software by Sonic Projects that emulates an OB-X, but unless you use Reaktor, it can't be used on a mac. I use a Mac, so I'm kind of fucked. It's cool enough that I'm thinking about getting a cheap Netbook just so I can run it. Otherwise, Arturia and Native Instrumetns make all kinds of synthesizer emulations.

I'm currently looking for something that emulates a Boss flange pedal, which is what I believe is being used as the trippy effect on the drum machine on songs like When Doves Cry, etc...
