My Darkest Day

Poem I wrote for my youngest son when he moved out....more to ease my sadness then anything else. My first post, so be kind... confused

My Darkest Day

I find my world has been shattered today
With the rising of the sun

No longer can I fly above the clouds
For my two has suddenly become one

I am lost in my grief and sorrow
The ache in my heart profound

I want to scream at the injustice and betrayal
But find I can not make a sound

My soul shakes, my heart breaks
Yet somehow I must carry on

'Cause I know in my heart it's not your fault
For you couldn't know what it's like to hold a son

To hold a child so close to your heart
That he becomes an extension of you

And when that piece is gone from your side
To pray for a safe return is all you can do

How could you know what it's truely like
Until you have a child of your own

To feel so much love and pride inside
That you feel your heart's been outgrown

Or to know what it's like for that overgrown heart
To shatter in a million pieces

How can you understand that the hurt inside
Was masked by the angry screeches

I know that I have made my mistakes
And perfect I was not

But please know that my all is what I gave
And the best for you is all I ever sought

So with a heavy heart I will let you go
Though you will be on my mind every minute of my day

Until the day comes when you find your way home
With love lighting every step of the way

I love you, Josh[b]

That was beautiful and I hear you loud and clear. It is hard when your child leaves home as I experienced that as well. You feel like a part of you is missing like a puzzle. But just know this, your love for your son can be felt through your words and you can feel how much you cared for him. It may seem like your days are dark right now, but one day you will wake up and realize that the sun never really stopped shining, not even on the day he left home, the only difference is that the day he left home, he was no longer that little boy, but the boy that became a man.

Just know that even when your children leave home they will always be with you in spirit. A baby bird will not know how to fly unless it's allowed to spread its wings.

Beautiful poem, very heartfelt.

This portion definitely has special meaning to a Mother.
It's aslo the line that gives your poem, a broader appeal.
Nice poem.
