Does anybody know how Prince got the Wah sound on the B-side of Alphabet street about 3/4 of the way through and also on the end of the Ballad of Dorothy Parker. Come to think of it its also on Girls & Boys and Sexual Suicide. It sounds like a heavily overdriven guitar sound using a humbucker pickup near the neck but the wah sound is so clean and fat I can't work out how he got it.

If I understand you right this is also the sound he also uses quite extensively on the Undertaker video. I think it's an auto wah, and knowing P it's probably a Boss. I'm not sure if it's neck or bridge, but using an autowah and picking close to the selected pickup sure makes you sound a lot like this.

It sounds, to me, that he plays over some guitar parts with keyboards using various effects. So you have both sounds playing at the same time.

He said this in an interview once as well.

I know that P played guitar on Girls & Boys through a guitar synth. Other than that I don't know.
