stagefright,butterflies & the lion

stagefright-nervousness on facing an audience.

(butterflies)-nervous sensation felt in the stomach.

Have you ever experienced the above, to the point where you had to cancel an appearance?

If you've ever experienced either of these before a performance or presentation,
what did you do to get through it?

Is it now part of your routine?

"This...
Is earth
Where you can't say what you want.
You can if you want to,..just don't offend.
You can work all day, you'll sweat to the bone---->
Punch out..and you go home.
You can speed on the freeway,
But it's not a freezone.
You're paying too much,
for the gas that gets you home.

Nothing but a zoo out there,
Nothing but a zoo.

And with all this technology,we still play old-fashioned games.

Nothing but a zoo out there,
With a cage for me and you.

People are killing those who stand for peace.
Why won't they let them talk?
Let them talk at least.
Where is the Love we all talk about?
Then turn our cheek
Only to scream and shout!

:?News?:..talking about the clothes they wear,
talking about the color of their hair...
Please,.. don't take me there.
And with all this technology,we still play old-fashioned games.

Nothing but a zoo out there,
Nothing but a zoo.."

I experienc this everytime I walk out my front door to go out into the world! LOL! Seriously though I think the way I deal with stagefright in a social setting (I don't do presentations or perform) is to remind myself to just relax and breath. For some reason, remembering to relax my facial muscles helps a lot.

I read the Lion, then the comment that you xperience this when you go out the front door. I sense a "fragmented depth" in what you're sharing, if that makes sense, and I can relate to experiencing the feeling, although for different things.

I have a bit of a poser for you, if you're up to it (and if it calls for it here, or in another posting): can you recall the first time you felt like this, and the time when you felt this and it stuck with you, or are both times one in the same, or have you always "just felt this".

Hi eaglebear, I think I've always felt like this. Could be from a trauma at an early age or could be just a natural trait that I have. I'm not sure. It's also said that Capricorn are the lonliest of the signs and I am a Capricorn. I will say that this year I've forced myself into more public gatherings and made sure that I stand right in the middle of the crowd. I smile and say hi and usually a conversation will start. It's getting easier and easier to be gracefull even if the butterflies are still in there. :0)

When I was young I had these feelings and they almost overwhelmed me. Afterwards I would just second-guess my performances and end up a basket-case.

In high school I used drugs to mask the feelings.

Now, I walk on the stage with the "I own this shit" attitude and try to dress the part and I feel so much better after I'm done.

When it concerns art,
I think that's the best place to be mentally.
Letting your talent/gift flow through you without boundaries or constrictions, based on the norm.
It's probably rare for an artist not to have experienced these feelings to some degree. It's what we do to get through a moment,..
to feel that success..which helps us.
I'm glad you got through your younger years, and landed on your feet.
Both conditions can be pretty debilitating.

::::butterfly::::

I've found the key to my cage.
Now it's time to help you.
Look into your heart.
Really look..
And it will be revealed to you.
There isn't much time,
the more answers we find
the less we'll have of crime
you're gonna have to start
it's going to be,
fine.
Then all the cages will open
And you my friend, will be free.

Stagefright

Spotlight On!

I can hear the hummmmm...
I can feel the anticipation
crowd growing..Hhmmm....
anticipation..
You've all been waiting..
The rope against the curtain burns....(smoke)--^
As the moment draws near,(my turn to ignite)
I must release this...
anticipation...
Fear of missing something,
"Something" the un-trained eye may never see?...
the un-trained ear,
may never hear?
I've got to get this right,
And you think it'll be easier after opening night?

:::::shuffle::::

I've got to get this right,
It's opening night?!...!...

My light is too bright.....light
I'm not going to let this happen tonight.....

The rope releases the curtain..

The main voices are my nephew talking to his son.
Did you listen w/headphones?
I was amazed so much of the audio came through.Even though I recorded the water sounds over it.

No, I didn't listen with headphones...that's why I was amazed
to actually hear the voices! I couldn't decipher it all, but enough.
