MajesticOne89 said: So I recently got a 50's strat because I've been in to the blues lately, and although I like its tone, I'm in my college's blues-rock ensemble and I need pickups that can handle distortion, these stock pickups get VERY muddy. So I've been on other forums, doing searches and came down to these (I kinda need to get em tomorrow and dont have time to wait for fralins or kinmans to get shipped)
The Lace Sensor Hot Golds http://www.guitarcenter.c...1167964.gc Or the Lace Sensor Blue Silver Red Pack http://www.guitarcenter.c...1168087.gc The sound I'm going for is like Prince's SNL Fury type kinda thing, just a nice blues-rock distorted/overdriven strat tone. Thanks Why are you even flirting with the idea of buying Lace Sensors if you're trying to emulate Prince's tone? Why not look into Emg's? I have Lace Sensors on my Strat Plus. I find them very clear with a very even output. A very hi-fi tone. The set up on this guitar was stock. Two silver for the neck & middle, a blue in the bridge position. one regular tone control and a Fender TBX control (it's passive) for the bridge P.U. It operates as a standard tone pot until the 1/2 way mark then kicks in to change the resonance peak for the P.U. which to my ear makes the P.U. sound a little fuller. Though I've heard of folks mixing L.S's with regular pickups, you just might want to just purchase an entire set. You may want to try out a guitar with these pickups already installed in them just to see if you like the tone. Keep in mind there's no guarantee you'll be in love with the tone once they are in your guitar. A word to the wise if I may. Try to avoid spending all this extra cash on upgrades. It's worth your time and money to just buy a guitar already equipped with the hardware you want on it,. especially if you don't work on your own gear. (tinkerers this message isn't intended for you LOL!) Trust me. Been there done that. Save up if you have to get exactly what you want. It's more cost effective than getting a guitar you're sort of lukewarm about and the shelling out for upgrades hoping it'll give up the sound you're hearing in your head. [Edited 8/28/08 9:13am] | |
