what inspired it?

a few things...a relationship, my surroundings, and the smoke and haze from 1400 lightning fires (I live in Northern CA).

We had huge fires here in Southern CA,2003 & 2006.
I can imagine the haze.

I lived in SoCal in 2003, and was driving down from LA when I saw it start to go down - I had never seen quite as ominous a sky, and had never seen a sun so orange. the rest is history. And I found out right after I posted my last response that it was not 1,400 lightning fires, but 2,000! Ugh! But it's apparently down to around 20.
