Prince guitar influences Hey everybody,
Who do you think influenced P's guitar playing? He's mentioned Santana and Hendrix and we know that in his first bands he covered tracks by Sly & the Family Stone and the Ohio Players. Also, ever noticed how similar P's rhythm playing sounds to Roger Troutman's? Since they're contemporaries, who influenced who? Or didthey share a common influence? tim

I always wondered about Mick Ronson being an influence, he did listen to Dave back then, didn't he?
Actually his lead style to me doesn't seem that much Hendrix influenced - rather a mix between Santana, Mick Ronson and Led Zep. Altough I'm not so sure whether sucjh a list would be that impressive, tho'...

Oh man I LOVE Ronson's playing! Could very well be... I also hear a lot of jazz in Prince's playing, like the end of Let's go crazy, those minor third to major third moves, you don't hear that in Hendrix or Santana at all. Then again that might be some Ronson style country/rock creeping in.
