..in the basement Smokey says “Turn the Lights down low" with red, blue or green light bulbs though First kisses, high school crushes, puppy love, broken hearts Afros, afro-puffs, hip-huggers, spiked punch, mini-skirts, bell bottoms, fishnets and window panes, Everybody's superfly 45 skippin’, crowd trippin’ at the parties…....in the basement Young ones dance, groovin’ on Wallflowers, looking on JB yells “Popcorn!” Marvin says “What’s Going On?” Everybody's "cold sweatin" at the parties…...in the basement Grown folks peek from the steps above, hoping the young ones don’t fall in love, as the Delfonics sing “Hey Love” and the sounds of the Stylistics play, while the young ones dip and sway.. to the grind...the slow dance of that time, when Black artists sang of falling in love, breaking up, making up and broken hearts…. ....at the parties…...in the basement.
