He plays is A# a lot. I'm not sure why, my only guess is songs in that key (Purple Rain and some other's I can't remember) were written for piano because I don't think many guitar players would choose A# as a key choice because it's kinda difficult to finger. Or maybe it's the easiest for him to sing in...
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

Hi SirPsycho,

Only reason you wouldnt have been activated by Mods is if your application was incorrect...most people fail as they put "wherever" or "earth" or something equally vague in their whereabouts section confused

I haven't really noticed a tendency to write in A#, In fact I would think if you were to make a poll I bet the key of G would win!
But Prince records in all sorts of keys...the one thing he does tend to do is write in 4/4 time, but thats another story!

I forgot all the songs with A# in them. But I remember when I started trying to learn Prince songs, a lot were in A#. Also, F and F#.

My understanding is that A# - or Bb as it's more commonly known - is chosen for a lot of funk songs because of the way horns are tuned.

I've always been fascinated with how Prince chooses keys for songs. I wonder if he plays around with different keys, or if the key just presents itself in the beginning. Sometimes, it appears he gets infatuated with certain keys.

A lot of musicians work in certain keys because of their vocal limitations, but Prince can obviously lay it down in any key.
