Great! I loved both your covers! Awesome guitar! I was getting goosebumps listening to your solo on Purple Rain. Great!

Listening to the other tracks also. Great stuff!

Good work, but (oh you KNEW there was going to be a but, didn't you?) what is the point of publishing direct lifts of a song? Why not make it your own somehow? On Purple Rain, you were doing some interesting stuff with the intro solo, but you're trying to get the same sound, same production and same arrangement as the original. But you're talented, (to be fair, kudos on getting so close to the original sound) - I bet you could make those songs your own, delivering them in an interesting way, don't you think?

I've done tons of Prince covers, and I don't think I've ever done a literal cover -- only because, the original is like the blueprint, from which you could really grow something incredible.

But maybe that's just me. I LOVE covers of songs - I love hearing what somebody else's take on that song is... how are you hearing it, how are you going to make it stand apart from the original?

Take these for example:
Life Can Be So Nice (this one is probably the closest to the original)

I Would Die For You - this is the original demo

I did those two a few years ago. I'm just saying - you are very talented - why spend so much energy trying to be just like the original?

Hi guys! Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it.

At present it is me doing everything on the recording. The drums are made using a built in drum machine on the 8 track. There is no backing singer, that's me too, but I will be getting a very talented local singer to do those sometime in the future.

As for taking the cover and making it my own, I understand what you are saying and it is right what you are saying. I should make it my own way. But I just love that so much that I recorded it that way and was happy with it that way.

And as or the question regarding sheet music, I dont use sheet music and I never had. I play everything by ear and strangley, I doubt I'd even be able to tell what chords I'm playing. I can play ok but I know no theory lolol!

I'll denitly never be no guitar teacher.

I can play guitars, bass, drums, keyboards and sing. I have no experience with horn instruments or anything but with music you are always learning, even Prince! You never stop learning music even if your the best. So hopefully, good things are to come. Freeloader, I'll be there and Lady luck are all origonals however that was with my old band so I am only doing the vocals.

I will let you know when I put my origonals online. I am working on them at the minute.

And I listened to your songs beauhall. They are great, I love your take on I would die for you.
