Mars Music (gone)

Taken from http://www.marsmusic.com

Mars Music regrets to announce that it is going out of business. Our associates and managers have worked long and hard making Mars Music the ultimate destination for musicmakers and music lovers. However, due to the continued slow economy, our efforts to reorganize and restructure have not been successful.

We would like to thank our employees for excellent service and commitment to Mars Music throughout the years and we thank our customers for allowing us the opportunity to serve them.

I always thought this store was a great idea. I'm kind of sad that this is comming to an end.

The "guitarist's and drummer's night outs" were great. For those who have never been. The store would invite everyone to come in a couple of hours before closing time where there would be free drumming or guitar Cliniques where the store was visited by well know musicians like Shelia E. that would give little workshops on their craft. Not only that but free pizza and sodas! (until they ran out anyway) Sometimes they would just have guest appearences by the local favorites and they would give the workshops that usually turned into some pretty good jam fests.

All this time I thought they were just going to close down some of the stores. Not the whole company.

I know a lot of musicians that taught in their "learning center" and were not always happy with the management and also felt that they were getting a little "short changed". But the idea of store and what they did for the music community was and is still a great and commendable idea.

On the plus side, since this has happened, our studio got a lot of these students of MARS.

Anyone else going to miss MARS?

(employees may have a different opinion of the store, but let me tell those that worked for MARS that this customer was always very happy)

Yeah, my musician buddies and I have been lamenting and greeting Mars' demise.

What happens when a specialty store gets too big?
