Okay, who has a Bobby Z.-like drum set up?! ~∞*∞~
You know...Simmons drums, Linn Drum computers, small roto-toms, light in the bass drum and when you play you occasionally stand up and dance with them?! Fess up. | |

I always wondered whether he played any of the drums at live shows. Although I was too young to see the Revolution live when he used to play, what I heard always sounds like a drum machine! Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

Fess up. :I: have the Simmons drums (Brain pending), Would a Linn Drum machinge 4 novelty, :I: have some Remo Roto-Toms (hardly use them anymore) and Yes, :I: dance around my kit a bit... more like Squarepusher on a kit more than ol' Rivkin head here! 'dre Tried many flavours - but sooner or later, always go back to the Purple Kool-aid!

'dre Great! Actually I call them Roto Toms, but Bobby Z. Had these four small electronic toms set up right in front of him. They must have been custom Simmons like triggers. I've never seen them since on any other kit. Not that Simmons are popular anymore. Here's a tip, you can hook up those Simmons to a LinnDrum Machine, specifically the Linn LM-2, NOT the LM-1 which is the earlier one with the great sounds. Do a search through the threads on the org for Linn Drum Machine discussions. I posted images and links and stuff. =-=-=-=-= toejam said: I always wondered whether he played any of the drums at live shows. He did play! But Bobby triggered the Linn LM-1 sounds though for much of the early and mid eighties 1999 tour through some parts of Parade. Especially during the Parade tour Bobby really played them drums. I give him much props. He may not be a super drummer but he had great timing and had flair, which I love in a drummer. They got to look cool while paying man! Thing was that during those early times Bobby Z. and Prince had to replicate the 1999 music...so they were one of the first to really rig up and customize and heck innovate electronic drums. . Moderator | I have roto-toms that circle around the left side of my kit with triggers.
Yes, I've thought of arranging them up front like Bobby Z did but I have a 38in kick drum and it's too friggin high up. I wouldn't have room for my other toms. My dream kit is to have a full circle set up. On one side, all my accustic percussion complete with a stand for all the hand held instruments and on the other side the Roland V-Drums. This way I can just spin around on my stool to play either set up. my kit is crowded enough. I like everything in reach. All Rights Reserved. |

Hey Drezone - nice to hear someone else who's hooking up to Squarepusher!! Isn't he just the most genius producer on the face of the planet? Have you checked him live - frenetic and incredible! ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...
