Nevergonnaletyoumakemehatemyself again

I did this song off of a track bumper posted -- shoot -- 5 years ago?

I'm finally getting around to recording it for my next CD. This is the rough track. Sax solo to come.

There was a long-winded discussion around the song. One of the bigger things that came up was that the lead line borrows liberally from "17 Days". When I came up with it, I didn't see it, but yeah, I see it now. I'm in the process of coming up with something else, but tell me what you think. I think the first 4 notes are all that's similar, but it's enough if you already know 17 Days.

Thanks.

Here's the original version that includes Bumper (Funkaholic1972)'s keys in there.

I couldn't get his great track to line up with my studio take so I had to go in and fake the magic myself... since he lives over in Europe and I'm in Atlanta.

This version appeared on the first New Funk Order CD. Aaaaahhhh the golden years of the Org.

I'm also doing my version of I Would Die 4 U on the CD. But since Prince is being a whinybutt about his property, I'll wait until I get the mechanical permission to release that version. (but oh yes it kicks that ass).

I'm digging it. It's morbidly obese!

How come you never do kazoo solos anymore??

That is the groove, my man. Your vocals are powerful on the second version, and the first version has a good instrumental break. That said, are you open to a little feedback, to make the groove mo' funky?

You sound like that guy who sings on Santana's early material (the good stuff).

My suggestions would be this: Take out the hook in the beginning of the song and let people wait until the first chorus to hear it. That way you can double the time of the lead guitar line. That was what drew me in to it - it's a wet lick (that's a good thing), and then for the second and/or third chorus, repeat the chorus.

As with any feedback I give, I use the 12-step policy of "take what you like and leave the rest." That said, I hope that song gets out there and gets known, cuz it's funky, catchy and thoughtful, and it would be a breath of fresh air to radio - will it be available soon for purchase/download?

Great work as usual, here's my twocents

Love the lick, the tune is solid but it doesn't wow me...and it's a little muffled...

There's a sax that's going to be playing the same line - I just haven't gotten him in the studio yet.

And yeah - cutting back on the lick is probably a good thing - thanks for the feedback. Available for download? I suppose in 4 or 5 more months. I'll let you know.
