The choices an artist can make... With Nine Inch Nails releasing a remix CD that includes a DVD Data section, which has the full multi-track files of each song from the Year Zero album, and the written permission (in the liner notes) for us to experiment with these songs and see what we can do with them, I have four words to say:
HEY, PRINCE, YOU SUCK! Seriously, man. I have been following the purple man's music since 86, and will continue to follow it as long as there's music to come out. I understand totally why he has chosen to go the route he's going these days, as it relates to what people tried to do to his name, and especially what that means if you understand the principle of the Akasha (Akashic Records). But then, I see Trent Reznor, totally open to the possibility of others doing things to his music, and all around having an open perspective to outside influences, and it makes me think of Prince as the sheltered big kid that I have heard him referenced as. What say you, orgers?

Oops. I posted before I was done with the thought. The thought is this: yes, we can do what we think is necessary to protect ourselves and our music, and our legacy that we leave for our family and all, but does that matter more than our music inspiring those that will come after us (sometimes generations after us). Isn't it all a matter of what we choose to do, and isn't the best choice always what will help others?
